possible DZ Block With no Date
« on: July 05, 2019, 06:29:49 PM »
I have a 010 Block with a DZ stamp but no Vin and No Date, It has the M cast on the back top of the block which from the CRG site says they would not have a Date. the pad is hard to read so I took it to a engine machine shop for clean up,, it was magged with no cracks and is 30 over.

Doesn’t appear to be a factory DZ stamping.

File size will have to be reduced to 200 KB or less.

It's a Tonawanda block so it's a restamp as discussed HERE.

NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT THIS ONE... however

Just because the block was CAST at Tonawanda does not neccesarily mean it was machined or assembled at Tonawanda... Obviously the blocks machined at FLINT would have the galley plug because of the operations.

I have learned through multiple NCRS seminars on ENGINES that the two foundries exchanged castings from time to time in order to ensure that both foundries were able to machine each other's raw castings... JUST IN CASE of a catastrophe.

I'll bet that block was sitting on a dirt ground with no water pump attached to cause all that corrosion?

Even though the machining processes were slightly different between Flint and Tonawanda, wouldn't the raw castings have been identical?
