DZ block looking for it's home

My friend is selling his 69 Z and also this spare block he's had for years. I told him I'd try to help him locate the car, if it still exists, and try to re-unite these two. These are the numbers on the block:

529.84.5011

Find the VIN on the block; that is the only thing that will match it to the car it came from.  While you're at it, get the casting number and casting date from the rear of the block.

Note: The VIN may be on the front machined pad (adjacent to the app code you found), But most likely it's stamped into the cast surface above the oil filter boss (and very difficult to read).  Get some photos and use of a bright light will help on the VIN on the cast surface.

Joe sent me pictures. Looks like someone filed the VIN off of the block. Smh..... I have pics he sent but I can't post them. If I could text or email them to someone and you could post that would be great. Not sure if this should be in the orphan section now? Seems more of a bastard child or something. Any idea how to put a value on something like this?

It appears that some numbers might be there (or were there)..  it's impossible to tell with such a poor image.  For reading the VIN stamped in the cast surface, an EXCELLENT image is required... about 100-1000 X better than that one...

He said they are gone. I wonder what protocol is now with this forum. Should I delete this post and just move it to a for sale section? I don't want to clog up the section when I don't have complete information.

If it's yours, you can advertise it for sale, but not on this forum.   This is a technical discussion/information forum, but there are other forums where you can advertise for sale.

If the engine belongs to someone else, you might put what you know into a post here in this thread you began,  which would allow anyone here with interest to follow up with the owner.

PS.  The VINs are extremely difficult to see/read on the cast surfaces, so whether it has been removed, or  he just can't see it, is impossible for us to determine without having a 'great high resolution' image of the area.  If he or someone *removed* (ie. ground away or ?) the VIN, it would have only been for one purpose - ie. to obscure the information that might have allowed the engine to be associated with the specific car it was originally installed in.   Without the VIN, the block is just an '010' block with a DZ stamp...

Thank you for all of the information. I will look at the block myself and see if there are any traces of numbers left. If not he will probably just list it locally and get it gone. I just thought it would be neat to reunite this block with the car it came from, albeit a long shot. The DZ engine in his car now is not the original either so I will post that number and his VIN when I get them so they can be added to your database. Thank you again for all of the help.

takes looking at many different angles and lighting sometimes. But once you see it, it just pops out at you.

I found taking a picture with a flash works real good as long as you do it on an angle so you get the shadows of the numbers & letters. Straight on is too bright....Joe

My friend lives about 30 minutes away so it's difficult to find the time to get together. But I will make it a point to get to his house and identify the block, the engine in the car, and the car to help anyone in the future.

The last digit appears to be a '1'...      so 124379N666691     Since GN1220 has attempted to post the VIn and other data, I'll post here the VIN plate and cowl plate he sent me..   Appears to me to be a pretty nice Camaro, in spite of the Ford Caution sticker..     Frost green over midnight green...  pretty colors!~

Thank you Gary. I have yet to see the bare block in person to get better pictures but I will as soon as I can. For now I wanted to get the pictures of the trim tag and VIN from the engine currently in the car so those can be added to your database in case someone is looking for a car to go with their engine or looking for the engine currently in the car. If I've clogged this thread up with a bunch of useless information I apologize and ask the mods to clear it out as needed.

That "caution fan" sticker is one of the longest running jokes on this site. So many guys have them on their Camaros. Mostly over restored cars.

I agree with Gary great color combo, its just missing the Midnight green vinyl top ( 59 S) the "S" is the vinyl top code.

In case he wants to make it correct according to the tag. The vinyl top would make it one of kind.

I called him out on it and he said he sent me an older picture. He then sent a newer picture with the sticker removed.  The top had been removed before they bought the car in the mid 90's.

Ok guys, I know it's been a while but I finally have the block here and can see a portion of the VIN. The numbers I can see read like this:  19     0361 I'm guessing there should be numbers in between but they can't be read if they are even there.

that is not the partial vin. Somebody stamped their social security number or something in the block.
