Drive train re-stamp?
« on: March 11, 2019, 04:13:38 PM »
So I posted a link to this car on another thread just comparing the trim tag (06A). The owner (dealer) has the car listed for sale on" Fake book", and claims numbers matching 1969 Z/28 for $68,000.  He (may) have the original protect-o-plate .
I asked him to post pics of the the original stamps on the drive train and while the trans stamps definitely does not match the POP, the motor Vin stamp on the pad, has got to be to late for that, and then the rear end looks like they stamped numbers to match the POP. What is really bizarre is they left the original rear stamp (**0618G1) , and then stamped numbers below it that. (he even has a note that says two lines of numbers in the pic)

(I thought he car should at least be in the CRG data base, for any future sales where it claims to be original drive train. )

Engine stamp and POP.

Update: I just talked to BOB (the dealer). He says they just bought the car, and they are looking into it...

Repro body tag. Helps when they don't know what they are doing.
Learning more and more about less and less...

So April 16 was the mandatory D80, was that also the date all the tags would be stamped with that as well? Also likely the POP is a reproduction as well?

That 68 Z on his site looks like quite the gem...
68 Z/28  born with: 302, drive line, etc..

Fwiw, junk like this doesn't go into the db. A waste of my time.
There's tons of these types of cars out there. I'd rather not have the site about them.

I agree there is many cars like this that get created. Having seen other posts by you about the history of cars being listed as a something they are not, I was under the assumption you kept a large data base on such cars. For future reference where do you draw the line for cars you want in the database, fraud and real?
I figured if someone ever inquires about it on here, (like many others) you would have the info at hand. ( VIN 124379N661101 )

I also was curious about the POP. If not original, why the discrepancies with the rear end. Seemed like it would have been easier just to use the original stamp on the rear end and put that on the protect-o-plate?

That's why I listed the VIN - then it's searchable without inquiry required.
The db is not a registry - we're not trying to track every car. It takes a serious amount of time to maintain, so quality data over quantity.
