I don't know about the tag but if you're going to 100k, there's a long list of things I don't like including the block stamps.....Joe

Looks like the tag at the drivers window is stamped? Shouldn't that be embossed? Lots of repro stuff, clamps, hoses etc. Too bad, nice paint job. Probably not even an original black RS. Danny

Another FORD caution fan sticker on a chevrolet. Wish the chevrolet Retailers would stop advertising these as a Chevrolet product. Can’t go to a single car show without seeing them prominently displayed on Chevrolets.......

If you want to see what it REALLY started life as...

And for future searches, the VIN is 124378L315282
Seller: Vegas Classic Muscle Cars (ebay name vegasclassicmusclecars) out of Las Vegas, NV

Also note that I've contacted the seller regarding the car:

Quote
I hate to tell you this, and I'm assuming that you've taken the car as a consignor, but this car isn't a real Z28. The engine is a restamp, the documents are fake, the trim tag is a reproduction and the list goes on and on. I know this because I have the original Protecto-Plate for this car (see attached). The car started life as a base LF7 (327/210) with a Powerglide automatic transmission and a 2.73:1 standard 10 bolt rear axle. You might want to let bidders/buyers know this as to avoid possible legal problems in the future.

Let's see if he replies or if anything changes in the auction.

Funny you say that, Paul. That was the first thing that caught my eye.
There is a car collector I know and he has a 67 that is very nicely restored and it too has the 'Caution' sticker.
During a discussion, at one of the car shows we attend, about the restoration I had asked why he put a non-GM sticker on the shroud.
He was quick to say that is how it comes and I diplomatically and politely said how GM did not place that on the Camaro when it left the factory, which isn't to say the dealer may have apply it later. He disagreed with me and asked me how would I know if I didn't work at the factory. That's usually when I realize it's pointless to try to convince otherwise and change the topic.

Hmmm....Good point. I never thought of looking for one. I'll certainly look closer next time and use that as a comeback if a number exists.

Well, I got a reply from the seller:

I will look into this further. I appreciate the heads-up.

And the auction's been ended, so that's a good sign. Time will tell how/if it gets listed again.

That's great, Ed - talk about a hand grenade in the minnow bucket. Major embarrassment for the seller, glad they removed it.

Shame it was misrepresented, it is a good looking car. If they had only started with the genuine article, it might pull what they were asking.

Steve

On the caution sticker, same thing happened with me at the Chevrolet Nationals with a beautifully restored Chevelle inside one of the buildings where you have to be invited. Would not hear anything about it not being corrrect for a chevrolet. I guess it doesn’t help much when the likes of the most popular on-line chevrolet retailers advertise it as correct for various chevrolet models:

And plenty more:

A happy (?) ending. After several email exchanges with the ebay seller, he sent me what I'm assuming will be the final communication...

Quote
I'm pretty sure its not a real car, I'm inspecting the car now and finding all kinds of red flags. My customer is a straight up guy and knows now Z28 was misrepresented to him. There is third car car, I fear it too falling under the same circumstances...a 1967 Chevelle claimed to be a L78. I will have Brad sell the cars as clones. I will destroy all the fake docs...thank you for all the help.

This is finally a dealer I think we can have some respect for!!!
