Caveat Emptor...misleading statement
« on: February 14, 2019, 07:24:11 PM »
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-Chevrolet-Camaro-Z28/273701922269?hash=item3fb9e7e5dd:g:DfEAAOSwSjpcZYZb:rk:5:pf:0&vxp=mtr

No VIN listed

Seller comments:

It is the rare Silver w/ black stripe paint option. Only 19 where produced  by GM. The rare factory paint  was professionally restored where necessary and buffed to its original luster.

The body tag shows 40 B-Butternut Yellow w/black vinyl top. They painted it the wrong color, removed the vinyl top and incorrectly swapped out the interior.

Where do people get this crap from??? Even if it WAS Cortex Silver (and it's not like Bill pointed out), Cortez Silver (paint code 69) consists of approx 7.5 percent of all 1969 Camaros built! And all but a few with red interiors came with black stripes. Heck, we have a few HUNDRED Cortex Silver cars in the database!

Calling it brown would be closer than calling it silver....   awful (but impeccability restored per the ad)  and awesome and excellent!  :)

It is kind of hard to understand how people get just enough knowledge to sound intelligent but state the details so wrong. Some guy will probably believe it all.

I mentioned to him that there is some things incorrect, including the color.. Here is his response... Pretty funny really... Danny

WOW GEEZ BOOM BANG. You are correct. I built the listing with information given me by the owner. That incorrect information was given to him by the      previous owner. Go figure. The add has been corrected. Hope it meets with your approval. Your are # 4 on the Camaro guru response effort.
I will do more research in the future, although I never want to own or know that much about a Camaro.
Thanks for the kind way you presented your all knowing information. Reminded me of my X wife. She was a 24k bitch.

LOL   ...   the Thanks you get for trying to be helpful!~

...and you are totally screwing up the 'neat story' they'd made up to tell about that car..  with feasible deniability from all parties. (Any errors are due to the ORIGINAL owner!).. :)

Would it be fair to post your message to him so we have a better context as to why he responded that way?  Sometimes comments made over a computer screen are interrupted differently than they were meant.  I know I have said things that came across in a different way..

I don't see anything wrong with his reply. I think he was being funny. Or at least TRYING to be funny. And at least he changed the listing. Most wouldn't.

Sad but true. Will further the myth of that rare, factory air Z28 for sure. Shame it wasn't an ultra-rare Turbo 400 -

Hey, I just realized I have one of those ultra low production Cortez Silver cars, too.

Its a shame, a properly restored Butternut (only 1% color!) Z with original STD black interior, would have probably costed less to restore, but worth more to sell then $55K :(

Perhaps he really meant 'peccadillo restored'...?   :)

I think the car was nicely done.  Not in the way of originality but still clean.  Now idk what it looks like underneath but I'd assuming noting crazy.  I can't speak on the previous ad info as I didn't read it but the ad now reads ok to me.

Agree, clean car.  At least they put a silver grill in it  ;D   and $1400 worth of correct tires is nice.  I kind of like the tach and center fuel gauge, someone didn't actually add a console this time.  While the car may largely be incorrect in many other ways, someone will come along and likely pay the price for what they see as a nice turn key 69 Camaro, considering what it costs to restore one.

Sorry, I had to speak up. I have a car with an original center fuel gauge (no console car). These clowns cut an original stock fuel gauge down to make it fit in the center pod. So who knows what kind of stripped down shell they started with. They should have just used the reproduction fuel gauge.

I will give them points for "creativity" with this build...😁
