Casting Date?
« on: February 12, 2019, 03:22:22 PM »
Checking this 350 for casting date, the only thing on the back side of the block on either side is the casting code and this big K12, but I've never seen casting date numbers this big or in this format before, and there does not appear to be a year. Does the K12 denote a McKinnon block, or a 11/12 foundry date. I suspect McKinnon but wanted to see if anyone actually knows. I've been all over this block and can't find any other casing date anywhere. Did any McKinnon blocks make their way to Flint to assembly in 1970 for Z28 LT1's or did they all go to Tonawanda? Thanks in advance.

I have a -010 block I am working on now.  It has large casting date codes on the side (hidden behind the starter).  Was originally a 1975 truck block.

I don’t think the K 12 is a casting date. The 3970010 block was made for a long time. Starting in 1969 and comtnued into the early 80s I think.

Check the bellhousing flange behind the distributor area for a casting date.

What I formation is stamped on the front pad of the block?
