Help IDing a DZ block with RB stamping?
« on: December 23, 2018, 10:51:20 PM »
Camaro Reserch Members,

I’m contemplating purchasing a engine that has the following stamping, block ID’s and clock stamps.
From what I have read on the discussions its nearly impossible for a cast to be wiTHIN days of the stamping of the Engine?  Can you all shed some light on this for me and help with IDing this beast?  The guy I’m considering buying this from is very trustworthy, he stated that he had the Carquest Machine shop rebuild it, purchased many of these parts seperatly.

Looking to piece a 69rs/z28 together.....bring back something I had back in the mid-80s :(

K118 on the top of area above bell housing
12GM 3932386 top of block behind the head at rear
V1I14DZ with RB stamped in a different font above this?  Appears like the deck was done up to this
371 G31 388 behind cam sprocket - hole for the camshaft is very centered which is good
Intake manifold: 3932472 GM
Carb : 3923289-DZ List 4052 931 Holley

Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

Dates are fine. We need to see the pics to say if the stamp is real or Memorex. :)

The RB stamp could be a previous owner.

If you are asking if the block can be *assembled* within days of the casting, then YES...   In fact, my 302 in my '69 z28 was assembled the day after the block was cast.   I also have an original 283 ci engine in a '57 BelAir that was cast on the SAME day as it was assembled (for that one, I can only assume it was cast very early in the AM and assembled very late on the last shift of the day!).

When the plant is running well, the engines are built within a day or two of being cast, so there is not a lot of castings sitting around waiting to be machined and assembled.

Without seeing the stampings/etc..  I would guess the RB stamp is a rebuilders stamp.
