67 SS/RS grill emblems?
« on: October 26, 2018, 05:36:46 AM »
Which emblems are correct for the grill of a 1967 SS/RS with the SS350 option?  The SS350 or the SS emblem?

As far as I know the correct grill emblem should be SS350.  This is also true for the gas cap and horn button.  At least that's what my '67 SS RS has.  I think the SS emblem only came out when the 396 became available.

I think it is determined by when the car was built, before or after the 396 came out.

Yep, it's in the table/footnotes here.  You often see restored late 67s incorrectly wearing those emblems.

So you don't have to search

Quote
The early "SS-350" emblems were changed to "SS" upon the introduction of the SS-396. The distinction between the two models was made via the engine size emblem and the blacked-out tailpan applied to the SS-396 cars.

Yep, and the emblem was on the fender between the front wheel and the door.

I don't think so, the SS went to the front of the fender and in the grille.

Ed when was the changeover for the grill and gas cap from SS350 to SS? The referenced CRG research is not dated for that changeover

We don't know the EXACT date, but it was at the same time the 396 came out, which was in mid to late December, 1966.

Sorry I was referring to the engine size emblem. Yes the SS emblem was always on the front the fender.

Thanks guys for clearing this up for me.  My '67 SS RS is a 01D Norwood car.  Does this mean that it should have just the SS emblems or is this close enough to when the 396 came out that it could have the SS350 still, especially if the assembly plant still had this emblem available?  My car has the SS350 emblems but had been restored before I bought it.  I have seen a pic of it before restoration that clearly shows the SS350 on the grille.  Did this change over pertain to the horn button also?

The experts will weigh in but I think the grille, horn, and gas cap all changed together.

I'd think that they used up all remaining SS350 emblems, as they switched over.

If you have proof it has the SS350 grill emblem and that is how it was restored, I would leave it as is.
