'67 RS/SS Pinstripe Delete?
« on: October 22, 2018, 08:09:42 AM »
Was it possible in '67, when ordering a Super Sport with the Rally Sport package, to delete the pinstriping? I thought I read that it was possible to delete the Bumble Bee stripe from the nose of Super Sport cars - but I was wondering if it were possible for a buyer of an RS/SS to delete JUST the pinstriping?

I've seen lots of Camaros that the owners opted not to pinstripe the cars after a repaint. But would those cars be gigged if they were being judged for originality?

While I can't say for *certain* that Chevy allowed that, *MOST* dealers/mf'ers allowed deletion of almost anything that did not interfere/impact with some other function/feature...  I can't think of anything that would be impacted by deletion of pinstriping...?

I also don't see any benefit to deleting it.  Don't think I ever saw an original paint car without it.

I did see a black 67 SS L35 car a while back, and it appeared to be original paint.  It did not have pinstripes.

BUT, it can be VERY difficult to tell if a car that was correctly repainted in the 70s or early 80s with lacquer is original paint or not.

If it was possible to delete it would it have been a credit? Just wondering? And would it get a special paint code on the trim tag? BTW, there was a black '69 Z at Dallas Mecum auction with the Z stripe delete.

Special paint codes were cryptic; there may be no indication of what was 'special'. On a Z/28, it often indicates stripe delete. However, it was also used for non-RPO colors on cars that did receive Z/28 striping; also non-standard stripe color on a car in an RPO paint color.

If the car has been restored, all bets are off.

In my opinion, it is unlikely that IF pin stripe delete could be ordered, that it would result in a special paint notation on the tag. In other words, normal tag.

I am under the assumption that the pin stripes on '67 Camaros only came as part of the Rally Sport option and was not available as a stand alone option or available on a non RS car.  Is this correct?

The pinstripes weren't coded on the tag, so if deleted...  nothing different on the tag (IMO).

If the pinstripes were included with other options/features, I doubt there would have been a 'credit'.

PS.  I special ordered a 1970 model RR and deleted one of the std stripe...  no credit... :)  nor did I expect one.

In 1967, Pinstriping was not available as an RPO, but was included with Style Trim (Z21) or Rally Sport (Z22).

Thank you Bryon.  I wasn't aware that the pin stripes were available with the Style Trim (Z21) option.
