I do not remember seeing any factory shift balls that had a set screw. Only aftermarket stuff.

I do not have my AIM, but It might use a 1/2 height jam nut?

I'm pretty certain that in 69, there was no jamb nut used on the chrome shifter ball.   I believe William told me that back when we were trying to decipher my car and I thought the jamb nut was missing.

Would think a jam nut or set screw would only be necessary if the orientation of the shifter knob mattered, like if it had the shift pattern on it.

True, no lock nut on '69 factory Hurst shifters.

Back in the day, saw many 67-68 Muncie shifters with the stud broken off.

The one I found on eBay with a set screw
like yours must be aftermarket, you say it’s heavy!
Originals were only 4oz

Thanks

I remember buying one for my 61 impala 4 speed with stripped shifter threads from JC Whitney. Had a set screw.
