Shock Absorber Codes
« on: August 21, 2018, 02:53:18 AM »
Hello Members,

Where can I find a source for the correct shock codes for my '67? Are they in the AIM somewhere that I haven't found?

I also would like to know if '67 cars had shocks code stickers. The HBC '67 decal kit includes shock stickers , but their packages are marked as 1969 stickers. Very confusing.....is it correct to apply shock stickers to a 67 resto or not?

The shock absorber codes were included in the Chassis Broadcast Copy (see 1967 example attached - box 224 for the front - LG, and boxes 245 and 247 for the rear - LH), and yes, there were stickers applied to the shocks to make them easier to find for the guys on the production line. I don't remember seeing a chart or list of the codes, although Kurt may have some since he's got a ton of CBC's in his collection!

Thanks Ed! Now I know that the HBC stickers must be for a '69 big block because they sent me a pair of "PW" stickers for the front and a pair of "TN" for the rear. Can anyone tell me someone that makes these stickers?

Thanks again Ed!

Ed, I think you meant to say box 245 and 247 for the rear shock.

Yes I did Warren. I'll fix it. Thanks!

Which brings me to a strange question I can't answer. Why did they have TWO boxes for the rear shocks??? I don't know of any car that had one shock for the left and a different one for the right!

Ed, your broadcast sheet shows two boxes for front springs, but one box for shocks. The rear shows one box for springs and two boxes for shocks. Makes no sense to me.

Do you think we are reading too deeply into this and maybe the person that drafted the blank broadcast sheet didn't fully understand how vehicles are built?

Helps if you say what the drivetrain is.... had to dig through your posts...
PW is good for the front. LH for the rear.

Yes, Thanks a bunch Kurt! And sorry you had to dig to figure out my drivetrain. Just to verify, it's an RS/SS 396, 325hp with a Turbo 400 and 12 bolt. It has no air, no power steering or power brakes. It does have the J52 disc brakes.

I'm going to speak with a gentleman that has a custom lettering business that also makes custom decals. I will update everyone when I find out if he can produce the shock stickers.

Thanks again,
Buzz
