814 alternator on TC site
« on: August 05, 2018, 07:24:10 PM »
So team camaro site has an 814 alt for sale, several knowledgeable people believe it to be a restamp for various reasons. The owner keeps stating to me that he purchased it from a John Perkle and the JP is a trusted authority and would never misrepresent a stamping.  I have no clue who John Perkle is? Do y'all ??

Chris, Ask the Seller to PRODUCE a copy of the John E. Pirkle Purchase Order Original receipt!
They are serialized & he signs them, How do I know, I have EVERY dang receipt in date order for ALL my Car expenditures since 1983
I have a REAL deal (Pirkle) sample I can Scan & Send you. (Circa 2005)

I am SURE this seller is asking a high market value make him back up his claim,,,,,,,,,,,,

otherwise these guys here are really good at sniffing out re-stamps w/o disclosing to much ,,,,

Can you post the pictures? Maybe it was restored by Pirkle, not supplied by him. Also Pirkle Jr took over the business after Snr passed.....

So I took all your advise, made a deal with the team Camaro seller and John Pirkle Jr.   Pirkle  Jr has been very pleasant to deal with. He has the alternator and give it a 95 percent thumbs up. He even disassembled it to check the date clocks on the inside of housing to make sure they preceded the date stamped on the outside. Plus a few other tell tale things that he claims a counter fitter would likely not know to look at.  His conclusion is if it’s fake, it’s the best fake on the planet, and done with absolute precision. I asked about the 1 and 4 being so close together, he says it’s not as uncommon as most believe and that he’s noticed it a lot on later runs of the same number alts, starters etc where the stamps start to wear a bit and get sloppy, he also said spacing isn’t nearly as critical as all the digits being in line?  So now I’m asking you guys .... 800 or not ?

Yes it did. Interestingly enough the 1 and 4 spacing on this one is a bit wider than most? Kinda like the one I was advised against. Lol

I think it was the other way around. The 4 was too close to the 1.

No 'might', Jon's right. Look back at the thread you linked to in reply #3.

So now for the rest of the story.....I passed on the 814 based on Pirkle Jr's evaluation. Now the team camaro member that sent it to Pirkle still has not received his alternator back from pirkle. We also can't get Pirkle to answer either of the numbers that we have been texting and talking on! One says be taking a break....the other says mailbox is full.  This not only makes him look bad to me and the alternator owner.... But it makes me look bad even though I paid the owner his shipping charge to send it.  Any advice appreciated????
