Multi-Leaf Rear, E-Brake Cable Brackets
« on: July 28, 2018, 02:22:51 AM »
Have a couple of questions about e-brake cable brackets; I've been looking for some used originals, have got at least one suspected as repro but would prefer to avoid using it - just too darn shiny and straight to suit the car ::)
1) Do originals have any markings on them that identify them as such? I made a note a few years back that they may have had a 'W' on the cable end...... not sure of the source.
2) The 69 AIM (UPC5, C2) calls up two different part numbers for these, 3923533 LH and 3895206 RH. What is the difference? Repros are marketed as '2 required per car' (for multi-leafs) so must both be the same. Is the difference noticeable, and are these judged?

Going by memory only. The mono leaf has 2 different cable holders. One is riveted to the plate. Whereas the multi uses the same part left and right, at least I think? Don’t have my AIM handy Tim, but see if those 2 different part numbers are not for the mono models only.

Hmm could be. Perhaps I've referenced the mono-leaf part numbers...... will have to check. If so, that clears up Q2 already!

Tim,

The part number 3895206 R.H. bracket is riveted to the perch plate as is 3895205 L.H.. Those brackets are used on mono leaf Camaro's. I believe '67 uses both, '69 would use the 3895206 R.H. on mono leaf cars.

Bracket 3923533 is used on both sides muliti leaf and also the drivers side mono leaf '69 Camaro. JL8 uses one on the pass side.

You said you think there is a W stamped on bracket. You are close, it is actually MC. It can be found at the curve where it wraps around the cable.

I am sending you some pictures to your email address since I do not know how to post on this site.

Fantastic, thanks Warren - and Bentley (obviously nothing wrong with your memory on this detail!).
Was intending to follow up on this and a couple of my other recent Q's this weekend - been away from home for work this past couple of weeks.
Thanks again to both!

Won't get home for another couple of days to check emails, but no problem posting pictures credited to Warren if he's OK with that.

Will be back later on today. PM me your email address and I'll forward the pictures from Warren if I don't get a chance to post them here; only a quick visit and then off again..... I do bridge maintenance and am on-call for emergencies.

James that's what I had noted years ago - but now wondering if it's the 'M' upside down, and there may be a faint 'C' alongside..... anyone else have a known original to look closely at?

Mine are original, but apparently I didn't take photographs of them when I had them off for cleaning (I just went thru ALL of my photos searching), and I'd have to get under the car and remove one now to check for you.   If no one else comes up with a photo for you, I will do so when I get a chance...

I will look later to see if I still have one original. Pretty sure there is one in my storage cabinet in the garage. If so I will post pics.

I have one original that I soaked in Ospho.  It had some original black paint on it, but now most of that is gone.  Does have pitting.  See attached.  There is something stamped on it, possibly a large letter E.

This is from a 68. Remember that there can be more than one supplier for parts.

Thanks for the photos Bryon. The end stamp is quite hard to make out on both yours and Warren's. Other than the stamp, the current reproductions actually look pretty good compared to an original or NOS piece. I will keep looking for nice used ones, but won't sweat this detail if I have to use reproductions.

I agree Tim. The reproductions look acceptable. I do not think they are judged but others may know different.

Thanks Jim, matches nicely with Warren's bracket. Are you able to post a picture of the stamp for reference?

I polished it with a little DREMEL wire wheel and you can see the teeth marks from the channel locks used to "crimp" the brake cables in the endloops during rear end servicing in years past.
