Big block fan shroud
« on: May 24, 2018, 01:06:35 AM »
I have an OEM 69 Camaro fan shroud and the hole at the top where the bracket bolts up has never been drilled. I am wondering if it is NOS. anyone ever seen this? It has a 68 in the small circle thanks

I can't speak for the entire last production run(s), but here's a pic from a mid-90's NOS BB shroud, purchased from a Nashville Chevrolet dealer - it's drilled. Maybe later ones were not ? Possibly someone has a (known OEM NOS) GM shroud they can share -

Steve

Most over the counter GM shrouds have 3 beads across the top rounded area.

You may be correct but not remembering that with Big Block pieces. I had a couple of service replacements from the early 90's and they had the hole but no part #. Other service replacement shrouds for SB had several distinct differences that even included width differences.

Bentley is correct.  These were a pair of shrouds I owned that I sold a couple years ago.  Left is the NOS and the right is the assembly line correct shroud.  Both examples pictured have the *68 and part #.  NOS shroud was purchased at our local dealership in the late 90's or maybe '00 or 01.

Good info Darrell! I had two service replacements purchased either in the 80's or early 90's and sold them the past several years and neither had the part #. I check my archives and did not keep a picture of them but had looked for the part # knowing that would add some value. LOL And of course the buyers were looking for part # as well!

I have worked for gm parts for 32 years. Never seen 67-69 Camaro shroud with out part number cast in the shroud. That is the way  i would check in the shroud. But i have seen one were the hole was not drilled. We sent it back to gm as defective. So i would say anything is possible as far as the hole. Also checked 2 nos shrouds have 3 beads one used does not have not have bead's all stamped with part #3947619. Hope this helps.

Don't thank me..  I just added a photo.  Bentley was the first to make the comment.  I only agreed.

Also rare396bronze is another known knowledgeable Camaro person.  True numbers guy.

I looked at mine last night. I purchased it either 1981 or 1982 from Chevrolet when I restored the car the first time. The hole was there from the factory & it doesn't have the three ribs....Joe
