Carb for 327 300 horsepower
« on: May 08, 2018, 06:45:00 PM »
Just  had delivered last night a 1967 Camaro 327 slighlty  modified with headers, muncie 4 speed,  DUI distrubter and Double hump heads.
The carb is bad keeps leaking down after sitting a whie roch Q jet.
Suggestions for a new carb i am leaning to a edelbrock 500?
Want reliabilty and mild performance.  Going to drive this one often.

You should fix the Qjet setup you have now.  It is the best carb for your application.  Might be cooking the gas out after you shut down. There are fixes for that.

If the Qjet is not matching or anything special the chain stores sell rebuilt units fairly cheap. I agree on it being best for your application. Check your numbers before using yours as a core.

If you prefer a new carb vs rebuild or chain store version, suggest an Edelbrock 600 cfm with electric choke (reliable & simple to adjust).

Thanks for the replies, I ordred an Edelbrock 1403 500CFM yesterday and will install it next week, no driving the car till then. After installing the new carb, I will have to change the oil you can smell the gas in it.

My last Camaro was an numbers matching 68 RS SS 350 with a rochester carb it did the same thing when it was first purchased after been sitting for years.

The 67 i just purchased had been sitting for a while, this must be an issue with the rochester carb.  Owner died. Widow sold car to me.

Some times a carb sitting for years wil dry up and the gaskets shrink. You might want to try it after the gaskets swell. My gto has done that and a day later no leaks.
