5 numbered Rochester carburetors
« on: March 01, 2018, 02:07:07 PM »
Have  29202  +  29251  Rochester 1969  carburetors ..  Notice the "70" is missing from the units.    Anyone explain what engines / car models
these units are from, and why the 5 numerics instead of the common "70" numbered carbs. The Julian dates are;   098 9   and  114 9  respectively?
Thanks!
Ted

One of Hemmings mags had a really extensive Qjet id article a couple months ago.. You might google it or I could look tonight. It explained all the numbers in detail.

Not sure about those numbers missing the 70,but assuming they should be there:

29202: 300HP 350 auto trans Chevy

29251:  69 Olds 400/455 base engines

Hope this helps!

Out of curiousity - are any of the carbs marked "Rochester by Carter" in the logo ? I have a Rochester with a 5 digit number that was evidently made by Carter, either as a sourced part or a marketing/licensing agreement. Worth a look -

Another explantion or possibility might be a service part, covering multiple applications.

If you have Chevrolet by the Numbers 1965-69, there's a good explanation about the missing "70" in the Rochester carb section, also date coding and marking of the carbs. Very helpful -
