Are the exhaust manifolds different for automatic and manual trans? Shouldn't be, but the one's

LH 3942527, RH 3946826. These are AIR manifolds for manual trans applications. Auto trans did not have AIR so manifolds are different.

Same as Z/28; repros are available.

Tom:

Definitely were variations in 1969.  In general, manual trans exh manifolds had A.I.R. ports, auto trans manifolds did not have A.I.R. ports.  Also, the RH side exh manifold for auto tranny applications in '69 was modified to accomodate a heat stove.

See following link of CRG post where this was discussed previously.

You see these manifolds on eBay occassionally.  Last set I saw a couple of weeks ago was going for over $1200 and the acution wasn't over.  I sold a RH 3946826 manifold last year on eBay for $450.  The thing to remember is that Chevy used these same manifolds on base V8 327/307 applications with manual trans, as well as Z28 and other applications.  If you can find a base V8 (327/307) engine, that was originally coupled to a manual trans, and still has the original exh manifolds on it - you'll find these manifolds.  Check the swap meets - most people don't realize this.

However, if you look on eBay, be prepared to pay some serious $$$.

A nice repro set is now available from Rick's for about $340.  I would go with them, originals are getting too hard to find and very expensive.

As of this posting, a little over 23 hours left in the auction on eBay at the above link.  Currently at $305 for the pair.

I think they're the repros.  Same casting date.

Jerry,

How close to original are the repos?  I have heard they were quite different...is this true?  I would go with the repo set if they are relatively close.  Thanks.

The new repros are pretty good.  When they first came out, there were problems with hitting the head bolts but that was corrected.  Now, they fit well and look like the real deal when they're on the car.  And $340 is much better than $1500.

The repros are pretty close, but like any reproduction part,
an educated observer can still tell the difference.

The font in the casting numbers is different. dates are always the same day.
But - the main giveaway is the smaller defined "nubs".
also,
The texture of the metal - the shape of the ears, ect...
If you know what you are looking at, you wont be fooled. :)
