69 SS convertible exhaust system
« on: December 28, 2017, 02:07:32 AM »
I am looking to replace the exhaust system on my 69 SS 396 / 325hp convertible with correct style system.
Any recommendations to where to find the correct system for my car would be appreciated.
Thanks
Randy

The exhaust system on a 69 was changed several times during the production year. I read through the link Danzo posted & it seems they know about the changes....Joe

I am pretty sure I know what I need, just would like to find a vendor that does. The stiffner on the convertible is the issue as the pipes must go above it in the drive shaft tunnel, which is pretty tight.
I talked to the guy at Gardner and he seems to know what he is doing, but I hate to spend $1000 on a exhaust system and drive it down the road.
The thing is I just want to drive not show, and I need to keep the cost down.
I bought this car new and am trying to get her on the road again after setting in the garage for many years.
Had to change out the clutch and pressure plate because the mice carried dog food pellets into the bell housing and it glazed over the clutch.
Thought it would be a good time to put back the exhaust to like factory.
Like the fool I was in my youth I replaced the factory exhaust with glass packs ( does sound good! ) but failed to keep the original system.
Might just have to put the glass packs back on.
By the way
This forum is great

nice collection 69houdini,
Gardner exhaust is without a doubt the best choice, except for the cost.
Thanks for the info

A few years back, i put on a complete exhaust system for a small block camaro convertible from D & R Classic in Warrenville, Illinois and it fit just fine. It cost about $300 for the small block system. I live pretty close to them so I just picked it up so you would probably need to factor in freight plus a little more for the big block.
I have also bought a couple of Gardner systems and they are great but this car was a driver and I had no problems with it.
Might be an option for you.

Gardner is overpriced for a driver. D&R Classic has a nice, wallet friendly exhaust. I think Ground Up was going to begin stocking the same one but I have to check next time I'm down there. Also not sure if Gardner fixed their issues from a while back as stated in thisthread: http://www.camaros.net/forums/34-restoration-corner/168582-time-new-exhaust-best.html

X2...  I'd go D&R or another provider rather than Gardner for a 'driver'...
