Please keep your original dip stick.  Look at the dip stick you bought and see if it says MS or SE under oil type. SE would be later. Had the same issue with an original dip stick I needed.

Every Z/28 I have seen has the flat tip dipstick. The one on my early 69Z 10B car measures 18 3/4 (flat portion) to the base of the cap.

I have the stock oil filter, which was longer.( I am only aware of the 2 sizes. ) Since it sounds like your dip stick is the right length, another factor may be your dip stick tube got swapped out for a longer one? (not sure if they had different size tubes) just trying to piece together why yours is not reading correctly.

The Z28 302 oil pan holds 4 quarts (5 with filter), so if you're using the tall 2 quart oil filter, you'll need to add another 2 quarts to the system for a total of (plus or minus) 6 quarts.

There was no 'short' filter back in 1969. The owners manual states all 8 cylinder engines have a 5 quart capacity, including the filter.

Agree with William, long filter (1 QT), and curved tube and long dipstick.
No change in 69 AIM to option Z28.
Be sure in filling filter before screwing on filter.

Long style PF 29 was used in 68, and shorter PF25 used in 69 per any research I've done.

I have seen an even shorter one than the PF25, so maybe there is 3 sizes.

Hey Guys! Thanks for all the help! Problem solved! I got old dip stick kinda gray dot on end & checked it to new Nos green dot & both have a M stamped in exact same spot Original broke off right after M! So I was checking tube on motor & it was out of round so I put a punch in it and now perfect round I checked oil again & perfect right to full! Maybe dipstick not going all the way in & the DIPSTICK that asked all these questions maybe should have checked that first! Tks again guys! Bill
