Front coils for 69RSZ28
« on: October 19, 2017, 06:38:01 PM »
Hi,
Has anyone purchased EY front coils from HBC, part number FEP-1191? Are they correct in appearance and more importantly, do they provide the correct ride height? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Terry

I had Coil Spring Specialties (Kansas) build me two EY springs to match my originals in static height, spring rate, coil dia, and number of coils...  as recommended to me by Steve Shauger (PaceMe)...

Hi Gary,
Do you have them installed on your car and are you happy with the ride height?

They are installed, but parts of the car (fenders, hood, core support, radiator, etc) are not installed as yet, so ride height not finalized...  Since I had them match all the physical specifications of the  factory EY spring I sent them, I think I will be happy with them... certainly more happy than buying OTS springs which perhaps match the ride height (maybe), but none of the other physical specifications...

PS.  I do have the physical characteristics listed herein (0.610” wire diameter, 8.125 Total coils, Inside Diameter 3.675”,
Free, or static, Length 15.00” +/-, Load Rate 370#/in).  .. and here is a photo of the one original EY spring, along with the pair from CSS...  (one of my original EY springs had a broken coil necessitating the new ones).

Hi Gary,
Do you remember the contact person at CSS who is familiar with your order? I would like to purchase a set based on the specifications you sent them.
Regards, Terry

Hi Terry,

Yes, Kevin Crane was my contact.   I sent him my good original spring in late 2012, they tested it and he came back with the results, and proposed a couple of alternatives for the new springs; I was determined to stay as close as we could to the original physical characteristics, but was willing to accept a slightly stiffer spring (which I believe is what we ended up with )..  Feel free to reference my name (Gary Wylie) to Kevin if it helps him to find the data..  I received the new springs in early 2013.

PS.  Pay little attention to 'Bullitt'...  since he moved to Kalifornia, he's delirious most of the time...   :)

I am curious Gary, with having the original springs why would you want to replace them? Did your car start sitting extra low in the front?
I ask because all of us have cars that are 40 years old, but many of us are still using the original springs i would think.

When I disassembled the front end for rebuild, I found the bottom coil from one spring 'broken off'...  still had the original EY label from the factory, but the lowest coil was broken!  That's the only reason I had the new springs made...  and yes, it was 'sitting a bit lower'... but I didn't know the reason for it until the disassembly...
