Looking for information BEFORE I start
« on: September 08, 2017, 12:16:27 AM »
I've got a 69 Camaro that codes out as a SS350 has the X11 call out on the tag. Front power discs, quick ratio power steering, front sway bar, 12 Bolt 3.08:1 rear, 5 leaf spring pack, A/C car. Car is White with an SS hood, no rear spoiler, black side stripes and black rockers. Interior call out is green.  My questions are
 1) Did Chevy "tu-tone" interiors? The carpet, kick panels, dash pad and carpet on the door lowers is green. My steering column is green. The rest of my interior, door panels, headliner, sail panels, package tray and seats are Black with hounds tooth inserts. I also appear to have bucket rear seating with shoulder belts (the seat bottoms are two piece with carpet exposed between them)
2) Where does a guy find replacement "woodgrain" as my dash has it across the entire dash and the piece by the passenger side has started to rust.
3)The tail panel on this car has been blacked out. Was this legit?Or someone with a rattle can thought it was cool? I got the car with a 396 "dealer replacement" engine (per block #) and a short shaft TH400 with no tag. The guy I bought if from purchased it from owner #2 with it in it and had been told "all big block cars had the panel blacked out" ......mine being a SS350 I'm doubtful its factory.
Any help is greatly appreciated

Welcome the CRG!
1)Sounds like someone had the interior re-done. I am not aware of a green hounds tooth interior. White/black, Yellow, and orange were the only choices.
2) I think there are a handful of reputable Camaro parts outfits that sell the pieces you require.
3) Only factory big blocks had the tail panel blacked out from the factory, BUT it is your car you can restore however you want.  ;)

Now how about some pics of your car for us? (we love seeing pics, especially the before pics) ;D

X11 does not equal SS350.
1 or 2 fuel lines?
What's the stamping on the axle? Tag pic?

James posting a good picture of the trim tag will help these guys give you accurate information on your camaro.

James, the dash woodgrain pieces are all reproduced. The quality can vary, and if you live anywhere near a vendor's business, it's of benefit to be able to inspect it before buying, especially to be happy the simulated woodgrain pattern is a reasonable match right across including the ashtray and glovebox pieces.
Original woodgrain trim pieces turn up from time to time on ebay, CL and forum classifieds, but often because the owner wasn't happy with it and opted to replace.

James, Good luck on your project!  Trim tag code for the interior is 722, Deluxe medium green, with comfort weave seat covers.  So the woodgrain is part of the deluxe interior package.  Likely a previous owner changed the seat covers to black deluxe when the comfort weave covers ripped.  Green covers are avail new, it is likely your seat frames are original, so check the stamped date codes in the headrests and seatframe (pics of the codes on my seat resto post http://www.camaros.net/forums/23-interiors/391289-restoring-your-front-bucket-seats-69-standard-shown.html).

Tim is on target with the woodgrain info.

Looks like your car was option loaded!  Vinyl top, air conditioning, deluxe interior, 8-track stereo multiplex, PS, PDB. Nice base to start with!

"perfect"... you had me laughing. Is there such a thing?  (just messing with you) ;D

If memory serves there is a COPO Camaro with a similar color combo of white with a green interior.

At least James can run the "Sport striping" and break up the white a little.  :)

Sorry.  The trim tag pic on my monitor looked like "50 B", Now that I looked more closely I see the "50 50", but the last 0 is tough to see! :)

KevinW, no harm here. I didn't decode it just read what you said. I don't like vinyl tops on Camaros, even though I owned one. I think a white car with green interior will look great. Guess I was supposed to ask permission to have an opinion.

You don't need to ask permission, you don't get an opinion.
 ;D
We'll let you know if we deem it ok for you to have an opinion in the future.

In all honesty there probably isn't as many white cars with a colored (non-black) interior, but I wish there was. It makes it look more sporty.

I am tempted to put a red interior in my white car. (love that combo) BUT, I have a few nice original black pieces though, so it will likely stay black.

That white with green interior kinda reminds me of "double spearmint  gum" or something minty. :)

The car doesn't have a vinyl top, no chrome trim or pins where it might have been in the back. I'm taking it back to the stock Dover White with the SS hood, Chrome "gills", rain gutter stainless, wheel opening stainless, Black rockers and side striping it had. No rear spoiler. Some one asked how many fuel lines it has? It has two. It had a blacked out tailpanel when I bought it in 87 along with a very tired (flat cam) 396/TH400. Poked in a cam and lifters and drove it until 5&7 put a hole in the block on their way out....it had the front springs replaced sometime prior to me because it sat level when I got it and when I put a 350 in it as a driver, it sat up in the nose. Everything I've found has said this car rolled out of the factory as a SS350/TH350 car with a nice interior package. The kid I bought it from wasn't very mechanically savvy and had only owned it a couple months before I bought it. Cam had gone flat on him, I got it for $600. That tells me owner #1 or #2 did the BBC swap for Lord knows what reason as its an A/C car and that would have been a pain. Someone asked about the rear end tag, I'll roll under it and see if it's there...I've never looked for it.

I think they may've meant rear end stamp.
it is located on the passenger side axle tube facing forward. 2 letters followed by 4 numbers usually. Ex: BU 0516

The only small block engine RPOs in '69 to have two fuel lines were LM1 and L48 (SS), and this car's build date is too late for it to have been an LM1.
