Brake booster: original colour ?
« on: September 02, 2017, 04:15:05 AM »
I know that most of the repro brake boosters are not painted, just plated.

What about the original ones in our cars ?

I'm looking for an original brake booster for 4 drum brakes, coded 3972, what should be the original finish ? I've seen some in black colour painted...was that a mistake?

Thanks !

Yes, black paint is incorrect. The original Delco booster finish was (yellow) zinc dichromate, often called 'gold iridite'.

That's exactly what I taught. Probably few people had the engine bay repainted in black and kept the booster in there for some reasons.

Anyway I'll searched somewhere else, not sure I'd like to scrape paint over such nice Finish
