1967 Tach original vs reproduction
« on: August 08, 2017, 03:40:30 PM »
Does anyone know if there is an obvious difference between an original and reproduction tachometer for a 67? 6K redline in particular.
Thanks.

John - I think IMHO cosmetically all the reproduction Tachometers (CHQ & OER) are very good facsimiles of the original AC/Delco. I have several 69's and the colors are good matches, the finishes are best possible. The obvious difference is the embossing of the rear shell with the CRG or OER brand-mark. AC/Delcos were unmarked on the rear, often just rubber stamped with a date code.

Mechanically I have not seen any difference on my 69 with vs. the AC version. I know some folks claim they HEI worked driving a reproduction tachometer with no conversion or filter, but I have no experience with that.

Thanks.
The reason I'm asking is I recently got some parts off a 67 that has the 6K tach and now I'm curious if it was an original. I don't think its a special car regardless.

Repro tachs have green circuit board. Original's are brown, and the back is date stamped in black, among other things.

Thanks guys. Now, if I go back to inquire about it I will know what to look for.
