68 Quarter window u-jamb screws
« on: June 02, 2017, 04:58:25 PM »
Does anyone have their original screws holding these u jambs in place?  I've noticed that my passenger side doesn't even have any screws at all in it so I would like to see what an original is or at least for now get a size that would work temporarily.

Or could someone point me to a part # for the screws?  I have a Fisher body service manual and can't find it in there.  If someone has found it in there let me know please.

I'll be climbing on the lift to measure a belt on my '67 for someone else so I'll take an original U-jamb seal screw out and post pictures of it later today.

Here is a picture of an original '67 U-jamb screw from my 04B LOS.
The plating is chrome and it definitely looks like a #8 x 1/2" (I placed it on a quarter to keep it level to the ruler)
The head width is .2851"

Hope this helps.

That's a great start! Thanks.  Is that a captured washer on it?

 Hi '68Z28,

Hmmm....I can see in the picture where it looks like a captive washer. No, it has a flat base.
For a close looking substitute you can use a #8x3/8" screws that are used to fasten windshield molding. Those are sold a auto body supply outlets.
I have a box of them so if you want a few just PM me and I'll send you some. They are bright zinc finish and 1/8" shorter but the shouldered head style is the same.

No, I appreciate it though.  I'll just use the right size screw for now.  I've got some of those screws and the size was a big help.  Thanks Mike!

After digging through my boxes of parts for something else, just happened across a bag of AMK screws for u jamb.  #8x1/2" .28" dia. Wow, guess I should look more often, finding all sorts of stuff I've bought over the years.

Thanks,

Mike, they came in a "kit" so the only number I have is for that G-5389. They look a little shorter than your screws, other than that they look the same.  If I could find an original part number, it could be x-referenced to their number.

I think the ones that come in the kit are zinc screws, correct? Of the 68 & 69 NOR survivors I've looked at have a phosphate screw and that is what is in our restored 68.

Chick is correct.  At least the green car is phosphate.  67 could be different.

The 67 NOR and LOS are chrome screws. I wish the NOR screw chrome was in better shape so for now I'm opting for a polished bright zinc on the restoration until I can find a good replacement.

Gray?  These do have kind of a silvery look to them, but that could be easily changed.  They seem to be a little shorter than Mikes and have a rubber sealer on them.  I have and AMK catalog so when I get some time I can look through all the screws.  There has to be something there.
