Ignition Coils
« on: January 24, 2014, 11:04:03 PM »
Does anyone know where in the CRG material I can find a list of the GM P/N for 1969 ignition coils or do you have a complete list of 1969 ignition coil for each Camaro engine?  I am trying to verify if my '270 is correct for my 1969 Z.

Ignition coils are not yet listed in the CRG research data.  You can do a "270 coil" search on the home page and lots of related CRG threads will magically appear!   :)

I did some searching in the "Team Camaro" web site on this subject and the results found in a blog string showed:  1115298 - Z28 with flat hood and non-TI;  1115270 - LM1 & Z28 with ZL2 hood and non-TI;  1115293 - All other V-8's SB & BB with flat hood and non-TI

In another section of the CRG, it lists for TI coils:  1115210 - ZL1 and 1115207 - Z28

Do the members agree on these finds?

270 is the correct one for the ZL2 hood, and 298 is correct for a flat hood car.

Here's the Delco Remy catalog pages from Oct. '68. Note the distributor listings are correct, as are the point sets and other parts, but is only lists 2 coils to cover the entire engine offering. Interesting -

Hope these are readable - I had to convert from pdf to jpg and then downsize.

From broadcast sheets, in 69, there were three coils (probably 4 including L6 cars):
- Z28
- SB with ZL2 cowl hood
- All others (LF7, L14, L35 w/ ZL2, L48, L65, L78, ZL1)

Remember that those Delco wholesale/retail catalogs refer only to the part number of the coil itself; the part number shown in the Assembly Manual is for the coil AND ITS MOUNTING BRACKET, a "coil assembly".

Hey Kurt doesn't the LM1 fit into the 'others' list? My survivor 69 Impala has a #298 on the coil.

Kurt...Something I saw on ebay prompted me to ask. I always thought the 69Z28 only had the 270 or the 293. HBC has an auction going for a #298...check out the link. Is HBC correct? I always had the impression those guys were knowledgeable. Heck I have 3 or 4 #298's just sitting around. At $500.00 apiece I can buy my correct dated alternator then.

So if the coils are the same out side dimensions, internally were that that much different from one application to the next? I understand the different coil brackets for the ZL-2 hood, but why a different coil number? 298 vs. 270?

Also I see the 293 coil as well for 69 Camaros. why would there be a need to have so many different ones?
