Factory style chrome exhaust tips...Where to buy
« on: May 23, 2017, 07:24:33 PM »
Seems like these are getting harder to find.  D & R no longer carries them, they want to sell you polished aluminized now.  I've never known aluminize coated pipes to polish to a nice shine so I'm reluctant.    Heartbeat doesn't even list the tailpipes on their site when doing a search.   Other places I've looked wants to sell an entire exhaust system with it.

Anyone run into this lately?

I see Rick's has them on sale right now for $180

Anyone try those?  They are stated to be polished chrome, not sure how to take that.

I didn't think your car would have come with polished tips, though right?

That's right, mine doesn't have them.  I'm working on another one.

I called Rick's and went ahead and ordered a set from there.  We'll see how well done they are when they get here.

Well, I need just the exhaust pipes (manifolds to the resonator), so if anyone buys a complete system just for the rear stuff...  I'd be interested in the exhaust pipes...   The ones I've asked said they only sell the entire system...

Are you wanting to be completely stock up there at the front of the exhaust system?  Meaning 2 1/4" crush bent head pipes?    If not there are some other options.   Pypes sells a nice set of mandrel bent stainless down pipes separately.  2 1/2" with the correct 2 1/4" manifold connections.  They are pretty long, about 3 feet or so, which might get you pretty darn close to your resonators.  A simple adapter back there would get that end hooked up if you have a welder.    I just bought a set of these for my Formula to mate up the factory manifolds to the existing Pypes exhaust to get the car back in PS legal form.  They fit nicely.

Yes, I want to install 'factory' or at least something close to 'factory correct', as I have original resonators, muffler, and tail pipes...  I cut my factory exhaust pipe in 1976 for headers (so I have the back end of them, but not up to the manifolds...

The best source (in my opinion) is Gardner Exhaust Systems (http://www.gardnerexhaust.com/). They are factory correct and even sell all the correct hangers.
