British Green paint colour for my 1968 RS / SS
« on: September 22, 2017, 04:27:32 PM »
Dear Sirs, I would be grateful if you can confirm whether Chevrolet made a British Green metallic paint colour in 1968?

My 1968 RS / SS Camaro came from the factory painted British Green and the car is still British Green now however my mechanic has advised that there is a slight metallic in the paint.

We are trying to match the paint now as the rockers and the front wings need to be repainted.

The car has been repainted at some point in the past which might be the cause of the paint issue..

Any help would be gratefully received.

Best regards, Nigel

Nigel, show pictures of your car when you can. I think that is a great color!

When you speak of wings it makes me think you are in the US. Paint mixing formulas should be available from a good paint store. If not there they would be here for sire. BUT it would help to know if it's base / clear, lacquer, enamel? Not all old colors translate to modern paints.

I'm in the business and a paint code translates to all paint types. Hence the WA number. "Wings" is not a US term. Many jobbers ( paint stores as you say), do not have a clue about old colors unless you provide them with a WA number or company code. And it still may not come up on the screen. Then you have to call the company library for a formula. The toners in old lacquers and enamels are not the same as modern toners; the paint companies reformulate them to match. And they may still have to be tinted and sprayouts done to achieve the match desired.

You say the it has the Rally Sport option most was painted black on the rocker panel except for some dark colors. Not sure on British Green.  It is not mentioned on the charts in RS black out chart in the paint forums. Maybe some body will chime in confirm if it was.

A 'front wing' is British for 'fender'.

Dear Sirs, Thank you for all the posts. I have checked and the rockers on a British Green painted car were painted body colour.

I am sorry for the use of the word 'wings' instead of 'fenders' however I am English and the car is in the UK.

Thank you again for all your help. Nigel

The only reason I brought that up is your paint stores may not have the codes and formulas for US cars. If they don't  but you have stores like PPG, etc. someone here in the US could get mixing formulas for the original color.
