68 with 67 vin ?
« on: January 16, 2007, 04:27:55 AM »
Can anyone tell me how you get a 68 camaro body with a 67 vin in the 68 location? I just purchased whats left of what looks to be a 68 camaro but the vin which is on the dash and does not look tampered with is coming up as a 67 model year. The car has a roll bar and all the drivetrain is missing it has manual front drum brakes and manual steering and was a standard shift on the floor. The trim tag is also missing so no help there. but here is the vin#124377N141xxx. Also it has the 68 wrap around dash pad and astro vents and no wing vents and it has side marker lights. It also has what looks to be standard black interior according to the door panels. It is also sporting a ss gas cap. Any help would be great!!! Thanks in advance.

That vin is a 67 vin and should not be there.  Look for the hidden vin under the cowl vent  and behind the blower motor box on the firewall.

Can you post a photo of what the VIN tag up on the dash looks like?

I can't get the photos yet I have to pick up the car out of state and then I can post any photo's. The person that I purchased it from assures me that the vin tag is original not tampered with.

Just picked up the car today and to my disappointment it has a tampered vin number.Someone placed a 67 vin tag under the dash to make it look like a 68. Now I need to figure out what to do with it I guess. Thanks for all the help.

I hope you didn't buy it. Not with a tampered VIN.

Get your money back - the hidden VINs will probably come up as a stolen car.

I am checking into the hidden vins now and am going to find out if it is stolen. I purchased it off ebay for parts or to fix up and the seller is less than outstanding at this point and I had paid him before I went to pick up the car so it is more than likely going to get ugly I guess.

There's these people who go to school for a long time and they're called lawyers. If the sellers is not cooperating, get one of those lawyers and have him send a certified letter stating you intend to sue him if he doesn't refund your money. The cost of the letter is worth it, believe me.

Good Luck.

Bruce Shaw is one of the better collector car lawyers in the country.  I have worked with him and he's excellent.  In the Philadelphia area.
