Check that date and partial VIN again. The car with that VIN (124377N124020 or 124677N124020) was assembled in late October, 1966 and the engine was assembled March 1st, 1967. That's over 4 months after the car was built!

Can you post a picture of the pad?

OOPS - sorry for the confusion.  I just wrote down the trailing 6 digits & added the "7N" out of habit.  It's a California engine with the smog code.  Should be 7L124020.

OK, I modified all of the topic headlines above.

Dave, can you say where the engine was, so there might be at least a little information to go on if the car shows up?

Yes I purchased a '67 396/375 Camaro along with a bunch of parts out of a storage building in southeastern PA.  VIN of car is 7N217814 - so engine doesn't belong to the car.  Collection is old - car has been mostly sitting in building since 1979 (inspection sticker is '84) - so trail on the engine is pretty cold.  Car has some original paint & extremely solid factory body & floors :-)

Even with a Los vin the engine date is built after the cars vin date. Ether you are reading the vin wrong or it has been restamped. It would be nice to see a picture of the pad.

Thanks for the heads up on this Bryon.

I'm in FL right now &  engine is in PA. I'll post pics of stamp when I get back to PA.

Dang. I should have looked closer.

Even a LOS car with the last 6 of that VIN would have been built too early - in the first part of Dec 1966.

OK - I'm back in PA and looked at the stamp myself.  My buddy thought that the assembly code was "MR".  He did tell me that the "M" looked like a "V" with really light vertical legs on either side of the V  - so he thought that the V was an M (since there is no "VR" code).  Well - it turns out that the assembly code is "IVR" - the block is low horse '66 passenger car!  It does have an interesting double stamp factory VIN on the pad though.  Definitely not Camaro - darn!

the full assembly code is T1030IMR - he also forgot to tell me about that pesky 1 after the T!

I am guessing he needs to have his glasses checked. Most likely IVR which is 396/325hp from a big car (Impala).
