What is this firewall penetration for?
« on: December 30, 2016, 09:07:28 PM »
This one inch penetration is located at the bottom left corner of the fuse box connector (looking at firewall from the engine compartment). Picture is attached. To the left of this hole is the clutch rod boot. Anyone know the purpose of this hole?

Speedometer cable. More info HERE, and the picture below ("Non-Muncie Hole").

Perfect! Thanks. I'll plug, as I have a Muncie.

Ed,
Can you tell me what the hole top left of the fuse box hole is?
My firewall looks very similar and I asked a well known 67 expert what that and the "back up light hole" were and was told they both werent original. I was just getting ready to weld them both up.
Thank you for the pic, at least I know what one is for now.
Maybe the other too?
Thanks
Dave

It was used for RPO Z22 (Rally Sport). In 1967, it was used for the power wire that came from the headlight harness to the ignition and light switch, and for 1968 and 1969 it was used for the vacuum hoses.

As shown in the various assembly manuals, for 1967, see UPC Z22, Sheet B8, View A, for 1968, see UPC 0, Sheet A8.5, Item 6, and for 1969, see UPC 0, Sheet A9, Item 7.

Excellent!
Thank you Ed!!!
The car is a real SS/RS so that makes sense.
I'm surprised the other hole is so big for the "back up light". Guessing they both get a grommet of sorts. I'll have to look deeper into that now  ;)

Thank you for the info!
