instruction sleeve on new 1969 Camaro sun visor
« on: December 28, 2016, 02:49:08 AM »
Does any supplier reproduce the ignition key removal instruction sleeve that was on the drivers sunvisor of the new 69 Camaro?

My car still had the original one on the visor when I purchased it in 1976.... :)  (I'm sure I didn't toss it, but not sure where I tucked it away...?)...

Yes, many of the usual vendors offer a reproduction, here's just one example:

Not sure if there was more than one style, nor if these are accurate.

FOR HALF THE PRICE and yes, there were a few different versions, depending on when your car was built.

Bert,  if you don't mind could you break down the differences based on production dates?

I've noticed on my 12D 69 Z there are glue marks on the driver sun visor where something used to be there.  I've wanted to replace it but unsure "exactly" what it should be.

Man, I just KNEW someone was going to ask!

I don't have a ton of information on these sleeves, but here's what I DO know.

There were at least two sleeves used in 1969 (possibly a 3rd but I can't verify that).

The first design sleeve (see top two pictures - front and rear) was used at the start of production and had the "GUIDE TO THE NEW GM IGNITION LOCK SYSTEM" written on the back of the card, with the front of the card having the actual starting instructions. The date on this sleeve was 7-9-68.

The second design sleeve (see bottom two pictures - front and rear) was used starting approx October, 1968, and had the "GUIDE TO THE NEW GM IGNITION LOCK SYSTEM" written on the front of the card with the back of the card having the "ENGINE STARTING PROCEDURES".

There were different part numbers for these sleeves, depending on what vehicle they were going in, so the AIM only references the "Chart". The pictures I've included are only references and may not be the exact part number for the Camaro application.

Thanks Bertfam,
That's more in depth than I anticipated, thanks for taking the time.    When you say sleeve, I assume you mean this is a folded card that simply slides over the sun visor?

Usually what I find (and actually have on a couple of my cars) are starting procedures that are glued to the sunvisor.  Not sure if that's the case with the 69 Z or not, but it has very particular glue marks where there was something at one time.  Thought that might be it....

There were two things attached to the driver side sun visor in 1969. The first was the Ignition lock/starting instructions sleeve that was slid in place. I don't remember if it was glued down or not, but the AIM doesn't show any glue used, so I'm assuming not.

The second was the 9432022 "SLEEVE-IN-TRANSIT CARD L.D." sleeve. I have NO CLUE what this was, but it's referenced in the AIM (UPC 0, sheet B1, item 9). I'd LOVE to know what this was! No glue shown in the AIM for this either but the notes show it was added on 9(?)-3-69. Maybe in anticipation of the 1970 model year? Anyone have one of these on their sun visor?

Thanks Ed,
It could have been something else someone stuck on there at one time.  I was only guessing since I have other cars with OEM stuff glued on there, that it might have been something you guys were talking about.

Ok so how accurate is the reproduction? it looks like they re-created the 2nd version maybe?
