Has been a long week, honestly feel more like playing on the computer vs. playing with the Z! Anyway, here are just a couple of the 100+ pics I shot of the sub frame resto this year. Throwing in under body and MC, and brake line clip id markings. Before:

CHP did the booster, BrakeBoosters did the valve by several names,lol Also the dust shields and valve bracket. I did the distribution block per MikeS advise. Bare metal with Sharkhide, needed a soaking only. Not pictured, but Camaro Specialties rebuilt the steering gearbox.

FIRST parts sent out where the booster and distributor, even before paint, so I was excited to bolt in on last week. MC is a 69, but only me and everybody on the site knows ;) I'm a sucker for braided flex, so opted for them on the car. Originals are  boxed in storage. DWC did the caliper brackets. Calipers are Lonestars, as originals were lost in a shop many years ago.

What I found for inspections marks were quite a bit more liberal, to say the least, from what I ended up doing. I do like cars with steering linkage inspection markings, figure if I change my mind, they come off. Tie rod to tie rod all original, only slop was in the gear box. Blued the center link, which began to show corrosion using Sharkhide( nothing else has BTY) Re-did it using Restoguard, I believe the name is,that Chick recommended, no issues.

Rear lower control arm is reflection and dust, believe me, color is uniform. Few bad shots of under body also. Better ones are stored in the external hard drive in the shop, too lazy to fetch. 1/2 quart 3m per side, rear wheel wells. With the wheel off, shows as being undercoated, however, all the sheet metal detail presents. My preference. Also, just a dirty thumbprint on the lip. Underneath shot with a low gloss lacquer, same as under the hood.(was mixed to match GM blackout) Illuminated with a flood light, just slightly flatter then the frame and control arms. Firewall staying in primer, I just like it. Under normal lighting, it pretty much all looks the same! Differential waiting until spring.

And left the springs semigloss. Just used a commercial wax I use on the boat. Once again, I like the way the gloss contrasts ...nothing more then personal preference. BTY, wanted the tulip panels left alone. Protected that hard to access area for almost 50 years, no sign of corrosion, hardly a focal point when assembled. I'll let the goop keep doing it's job.

Brake lines where a match to originals requiring minimal tweaking. Was going to run the front to rear today, along with the fuel line. Tired, feeling lazy, and really don't see the priority as I'm dropping the rear end anyway in the Spring.

The heater core. Dad recommended having it pressure tested, as no coolant has ran through it in 37 years. Actually,more like a better have it checked out! Appears like new,however, when plugging bottom elbow, and blowing through top, flood of air. Bottom tube weld has a hairline crack. No big deal, local shop is rectifying the problem...and pressure checking it. Good time to lube the cables, which have never been used, and order a new firewall pad. Age seems to catch up to those pads.

Since this is Garage Talk, I'll keep babbling on. Speaking of Dad, found out  mid-November he has cancer in one of his kidneys, other one may not be functioning.Although no sx's of poor function. After a roller coaster ride  of inconsistent information from one hospital/surgeon, it was second opinion time. Far better prognosis, with a good set of consistent options which make sense.

So what does excite me concerning the Z, is seeing him pull gears in it again, like when I was a kid. 4:88's and loud :) He's only 70, not ready to be out to pasture just yet.

Just talked to him, had a good consult with the Dr. yesterday. Stage 1, low aggression. Priority seems to be other kidney at this time. Shooting for at least 40% function. Test next Friday, then consult with team of specialist to choose right path. Originally had him slated to remove affected kidney, or not, or remove...dialysis.Honestly this changed day to day. Which he would have been on today having gone with original Dr. Very scary.Would have not believed had not been pervy to the conversations.

Your subframe and brake system came out beautiful. What did Camaro Specialties do to your rag joint? Did they rebuild it? If so, would you mind letting me know what exactly they did and how much? I have my original, but I can't run it. I'd love to have it rebuilt. PM is fine if you don't want to post it.
Good luck with your Dad. That's rough. I hope things work out for the better.

Cleaned it up, period. Was entombed in dealer undercoat and rustoleum. Looks to me like a low cut medium at low pressure. Maybe athinner bath prior. Couple hundred got the box rebuilt and unit restored.

March 15, Dad's getting the kidney with cancer removed, other restructured a few months later. No dialysis. Very happy he listened, and got a second opinion.

Wow, has it been two years already??

Manifolds were off in '70,bellhousing in '76, and I did a number to the munci in '90 at the drags,went automatic. So it has been many summers since they were all mated. Burnt the midnight oil last night and decided to set it in.

Fenderwells and rad support getting coated next week, hinges-springs, and z bar out to Cali for restoration, trim at Dell's. Sprung for a repop fan, fan clutches out there too rich for my blood, went with a hayden hd. The born with one's some how came up missing around 10+ years ago. Original exhaust is getting hung in a few weeks.

Dad's still kicking👍

Thanks Bentely! Been there, done it with this car: shows,drags,cruises. This is what I've been longing to do to it. However, like a few others on the site,when inspiration's lost, put it away.
But,,time to put a period on this project. My son and I were doing some fabbing on something last weekend, and I have really been getting the bug to build another drag car.

Also phooey on the original exhaust. Just dont like the look of the coating, want aluminized. Popped for a D&R repro. Will be here tommorrow. Racing the clock, doing a 1st floor remodel in the casa, we built in '97, looking alittle dated. Architect is drawing up the plans in two weeks, and we start busting walls.

Want this thing fired up, clip hung, ready to tote out for the headliner in this time frame😥

If you are wondering,,the original one is boxed up in storage, along with the lower valance, flat hood, rear tail light lens.

"Day 2" mods were done 69 to move it off the lot: hood, spoiler, stripes as lore has it.

# 2 owner liked the RS look, added 67 hideaways, grill, hood release, lower valance, rear tail light lens. Probably late 70. Saw a quick clip, 8mm, of this car on youtube going into staging at Dragway 42, no hideaways yet. Did have the TS's with the mandatory L60's. All goes well, should be able to get some pics of #1 #2 owners, and my Dad with the car this summer.
In any case, after way too much thought, it's going to end with the "look" I just think is right, for this Z.

I don't like plastic either. why not brass line ?

Yesterday sounds like a good time,lol.
Gasser meets are a really fun event. Dad has been sick, my hearts really not into running the Anglia anymore. I really dug the indexed racing vs. bracket/staggered lights. Dial in/breakout is on the 1/2 second. Got to meet a few legends when we first built the car, sadly, they were old then, and are dying out. Ran the car at Pinks also, quite the event, arm drop. 58 vette would be neat.

Looks cool, but wasn't into the straight axles, heard very ill handling.89" wb car was a handful enough, did run the rail at speed. Cant beat coil overs, tubular a arm mustang ll front end. Oops, wrong site.

So,, repro exhaust on it's way back. Side by side comparison to the original, no comparison. Hangers are cleaned up, waiting for the rubber conditioner, studs are cleaned up, heat riser in place. My son's spending the weekend so using the extra set of hands to hang the factory one this weekend. Didn't love the coating, but does look better then I thought it would under the car. Gonna post in another section part number pics, details, welded pass tailpipe.

50 plus years since exhaust fumes ran through it,,no more moving the damn thing around to get it out of the way.👍

My dad and some guys ran a 55 chev in C Gas back in the mid 60's, flip front end painted Gold named Aggravation. 
In 1967 - he paid $800 for a 270HP red over red silver cove 58 vette his plans were to turn it into a gasser. I had known about the C Gas Tri FIve Chevrolet and the vette since I was 7-8 years old, never had heard the gasser plans until the recent proposal.
 Anyway, within 6 months dad ended up in the NAVY, on an experimental minesweeper detonating mines under the ship in the dry tortugas with his older brother

Ohhh, 55's my first love. Actually owned one when I was a teen,pretty rough, money was in flipping the body, and selling off trim/glass. This was early 80's, I was 14, wasn't sacrilegious at the time.
Maybe dad's thinking time to get gettin' on a backburner project.

Following your work on yenko bty, beautiful. Nice to see someone around our age, well, taking it to the next level.

Figured everyone's alittle bored, hopefully staying healthy. After fighting me some, got the factory exhaust, after 50 years, back under her. I don't love the coating, but like rust less. It just ended up falling into place where it wanted to, I'm thinking not perfect from the factory.Going to start another thread with part#s, details. Replicated the driveshaft markings, many times had it off, never noticed them until I looked. Of course have all the before pics saved.

Were there different exhaust systems through out the year or was there an optional system?
The 68 Z exhaust which I got from the original owner had resonators and the cross flow muffler.

I didn't think resonators were part of the production until the last few months of the '69 production year??

This was Z/28 only. As of the November recall, all big blocks were supposed to have the standard N10 system. Vintage photos of ZL1 #3 [final-assembled on or about March 4] show the N10 system.
Learning more and more about less and less...

Thought the resonators entered mid to late 68.Noise issues. Chambered big block SS 68. Chambered option 69 Z's.

In any case, this was the take off  exhaust, by second owner in 69. Bought the car as a replacement for his Camaro, which was stolen at the track, Norwalk. Was in the stands and saw it being driven away. Still have the Hookers he hung on the car. Muffler still had a coat of undercoating goop, outer side, prior to clean up.

Fired it up day before yesterday, I was very surprised how loud it is. Pleasantly, low deep chop, out the rear. Little nervous, if  it sounded tame, it was coming off.

Well, you sparked my curiosity, and we're having a knock on wood slow day at the station. My down pipe #s show up in UPC NF2. UPC Z28, A2, exhaust refers to NF2, N61 w/o resonators. Scrolling through the pdf on my phone, soso reading specs, didnt find N61. Cars a late april build.

I didn't know there was a November recall...
The recall letter I have a copy of is dated August 1969. (Attached)
IT states the following -
Cars built Prior to Dec 4th had Chambered exh.
Dec 4 - May 2nd without resonators.

I am wondering if it is a typo...
The one I had must have been an N10 resonator system.

The recall letter is part of the documentation for a 69 Z28 built 3rd week of Dec, yes Cali built. TONS of paper, and is the first provable cowl hood car built. 

The exhaust I had came off a spring car, - after the introduction of new colors and my dad remembers him having the car prior to the summer of 68. The head pipes were cut just after the down tube, the car was owned by the local Mercury Marine dealer's son, one of my father's best friends. Ossey Delaney -  The car taken directly from the dealership in Greenville to Atlanta - Nalley - I think because they had a dyno and had side pipes, hurst shifter, scatter shield aluminum flywheel and shieffer clutch, bigger cam, and 4.88's and was dyno tuned. Dad said it was wicked on the streets around Greenville. He was given the exhaust when it was new, my dad had a 67 RS 327 275 which had crane cam head intake carb combo and he was going to put the exhaust on it, he had to go in the service, hated driving the camaro on the highway (6'1" 225lbs) and just never got around to it before trading on a loaded new 68 442 White over Blue with SS1's and redlines in the fall of 68 just after 69's introduction.

The exhaust hung in the basement of our house as a child then moved to storage at one of our buildings, when I bought my 68 RS/SS 396 in the late 80's my dad said - perfect place for that exhaust - I barely started restoring it before I got a 69 Stingray 350 350 4 spd, graduated high school, went off to college got a porsche turbo and in 93-94 I sold the 69 Corvette for $7500 and the Camaro as a project for I think $3500 the exhaust was stacked in the car with the rest of the boxes of parts.

James...  Is there ANY possibility that your 'Ossie Delaney' ....  is really   'Ossie Delay'??   Did your Ossie ever do a bit of SCCA Racing in a '69 z28 (gray/black)??

I am 100% sure it was delaney not delay however I will double check with my dad.  I knew, met, and talked to Ossie many times prior to his premature death in the 1990's (severely overweight) as he and his wife lived no more than a few miles from our house and was right beside my high school - Ossie never mentioned trans am racing HOWEVER I didn't have much of an interest in T/A racing when I would see him in the late 70's through the 1980's - he rarely if ever mentioned the 68 Z.

Ossie Delay worked as a Fire Investigator for Cherokee Cty, GA and lived in the Alpharetta / Woodstock areas during the 70's thru 80's..   He and one of his good friends (whose name I'm not recalling right now) did some local racing in the area there, and Ossie became acquainted with my friend Bob Christiansen (who raced a '69 Z28 in SCCA/TransAm thru the early 70's and then a later model Camaro in IMSA-GT.   When Bob Christiansen went from SCCA to IMSA-FT and changed Camaros, Ossie and his friend in GA bought the '69 Z28 TA car and raced is locally some before selling the car to a Dentist/Doctor in the Chattanooga area.   They kept two sets of Magnesium wheels and an OTC disk brake rear which I bought from them in the early 80's...

I met Ossie a few times back in those days and the name you mentioned was so *close*, I had to ask..  :)

thanks for asking, James.. :)     Ossie Delaney was so close to 'Ossie Delay' that I had to ask.. and they both lived in the north Atlanta area.. :)
