Can't tell 100% about this stamp but looks good enough to be checked out. The guy states that the car was wrecked in the 70's so not sure it is still around.

Maybe it's just to early in the day for me. How would YOU interpret this from the ad?

The block was professionally bored and honed .030, one cylinder is .060 all pistons are identical new TRW's L2210A and balanced.

I would strongly question the use of the word *professional* in that sentence..  :)

but probably it was just a screwed up sentence and needs editing... I can't see a 30 over piston running in a 60 over hole..  :)

OK.  I sent the seller a message asking about his statement. 

"Please explain your statement that ONE cylinder is 060...??????????"

His two responses follow... *(and I've NEVER heard of anyone doing this, nor would I consider it!)...

Nope, not really that much help, but I think he said the 0.060" over hole got a 0.060" over piston??!

Nope, read correctly.  I thought I'd take the time and ask if it was being read correctly.

The response I got was "one just needed a little more clean up than the others"

I guess one can sleeve it back to 30 over

I know of an old 63 Ford with a 406 and three twos that got two oversized pistons (why? I guess to "fix" a problem). The fix didn't last long. Not surprised. The car was a hard runner, traded off in excellent operating condition. The next owner had it briefly, then traded it in at a Ford dealership. The next owner blew it up, and it was at that point the two oversized pistons were discovered by the dealership. True story.

At least the stamping on the deck of this block looks reasonable. The rest of the block will need serious attention by a professional.

OK, I was able to merge that other post into this thread.  I kept the first post and merged in the second post on the same engine.

I'd be more concerned about the imbalance of running only 6 pistons. :)
I don't like taking a SB to .060, but if it was a big deal to him, I'd have sleeved it.

Every time I read that, I just HOPE he's extremely poor on his typing/editing skills.... and that his words are not literally true..  :)

that said, sleeving that one cylinder would be the best (only) option to preserve this engine.  (Sleeving is NOT bad; just expensive)...

Back in the day, and possibly even today?, Some racers 'sleeve' all the holes in their blocks as the metal used in the sleeves is better than the casting metal...  (8 holes to sleeve is about $1000 today)...

This engine should be priced going in knowing it needs to be completely gone through again and things corrected.  That .060 cylinder should have been sleeved from the get go.   It's about $150 a hole to sleeve one correctly these days (at a top notch machine shop around here).
     With the kind of approach that was taken on this engines first go around, you can safely assume  it probably hasn't been line honed, cylinders probably haven't been honed correctly with a torque plate, and from the looks of the heads I doubt it's had seats or guides replaced and probably still has 46 year old valves in it.   It would be easy to blow another $6k on a "proper" rebuild.  My approach would be to use bare block, crank, and heads and start all over, so for the sale price that's all I would be getting.
Just a friendly heads up going in.

Depends on the shop but I don't think I get a special discount. Doing more than one sleeve is not the same as the cost of 1 sleeve x the number of holes being done. Once things are set up, doing multiple sleeves takes less time on one block compared to sleeving several blocks.

Yep, the price of sleeves will vary for sure.  My main concern I was trying to convey was the amount of parts and machine work required for a proper rebuild on that mess.   It's by no means ready to rock like some might take that ad to portray.   Lots of money needs to be spent on parts and basically redoing everything.
