Another PCV Valve Setup Question
« on: October 02, 2023, 02:59:06 PM »
I have a LOS built 67 RS with the base 327 2BBL engine. The car was originally sold in December of 1966 by Merle Stone Chevrolet in Exeter, CA, so I believe it had the K19/K24 components, which were removed at some point by previous owner(s). The current set up is shown in the picture and has the PCV valve screwed into the oil fill tube and the hose going to the base of the carburetor. The oil filler cap is vented. What are the thoughts on if this is adequately venting the crankcase? Is air being mostly drawn in through the vented oil filler cap and going directly to the carburetor?

that is not the correct oil fill cap. Should be non venting if that is the correct PCV setup for your car.

Agreed. However, there is no other vent for outside air to enter the crankcase which is why I believe it is setup this way.

a 67 engine has a hole by the distributer hole which has a tube leading to the air cleaner base to draw air from inside the air cleaner. 68 and later blocks do not have this hole. The fresh air from the air cleaner goes in the vale cover and the PCV is in the opposite valve cleaner.

I know what the correct setup should be for the PCV valve, my real question is "based on my current setup, is it adequately ventilating the crankcase". Thanks for the replies.

Other owners report having the PCV valve attached to the oil filler tube:

You can also purchase the tube with the PCV fitting from a number of sources:

You might want to replace the breather with a cap.

Was the car a manual or automatic?

David,

Thanks for the reply. The car originally came with the Powerglide transmission which changed out to a TH350 by a previous owner.

It probably vents enough, but I wonder if the PCV functions as intended being located so close to the vented cap?
