MCACN
« on: October 30, 2016, 10:37:00 PM »
Just wondering how many members are attending MCACN in Rosemont (Chicago area) which is now less than 3 weeks away. As some of you know from my build thread on Team Camaro we are taking our recently completed 68Z there. I've been addressing a few items that were rushed to complete in June and believe she is ready to go. Some of those recent updates I need to place in the build thread to keep that up to date but what's important here is, Who's Going? Anyone else taking a car?

I wish I were going..  Im hoping for 2018 to have the green car there.  For the 50th anniversary of 1968.  I have no idea if that is or will be a theme; just something I thought about.  Good luck, have fun  and of course take a shit ton of pics for those of us unable to attend!!!!

Sherri & I will be there.  Not taking a car.   Taking some parts for a Canadian friend, and picking up a vintage fiberglass hood.

Jon:   very disappointed I don't get to see your 67 Z.   Chick's 68 will at least partially make up for it.   Not slamming your fabulous car Chick, just something about the 67 Z, especially the first one built!

Chick the pics of your car look great. I can imagine it sitting on the show room floor.
Question did you replace the leaf springs in the back ( and they haven't broken in) or is it sitting slightly higher because other 68's have original leafs that have sagged a bit over the years?

Chick,

You had better watch closely that your Rwanda friend doesn't take notice of the car's yellow and think it's a huge banana and try to peel it back, starting with the hood  ;)

Yes, they are new leaf springs as my originals had one main leaf cracked and too difficult to make new looking and I tried. Anyone obtaining new leaf springs better be prepared as the car sits very high when first installed. Ours have come down over 5 inches. I placed two 5 gallon buckets of damp sand in the trunk for several months and another in the rear seat area. I'm sure it will come down some more over time but think its within tolerances (range) of height. Do agree or surely assume survivor cars sit lower due to spring fatigue of almost 50 years. I will add this, the like original leaf springs available look great and met all of my expectations.

Chick, just an FYI. I took my rear leaf springs to a spring shop and had them re-arched two separate times until I got the ride height where I wanted it. It's an option for you to consider if the car doesn't end up settling where you want it to.

Not to hijack, but when you did that do they heat up the springs? or how do they re-arch them, and do it a little at a time, and evenly to both?

They did not heat them. It's just put in a fixture and I believe they use a press to change the arc of the spring one way or the other.

Mike, how you making out with Grady's 69 COPO Camaro?
I did add a few detail things to our car prior to the show including the correct Roger Dean script on the tail pan panel Steve gave me, the repro window sticker, and an earlier more correct Y55 battery. Know the yellow script is not correct with what came from the factory but it looks nice and will leave it on for this show. Build thread has info on how the script was applied with 3M adhesive.

Chick,
FWIW, rear bumper guards were included with Z28 - they weren't an option for that model.

Yep, know that Kurt but admit I missed it when first proof read prior to arrival but with the mistake and stating/showing the repro window sticker in the build thread there should be no mistake its a reproduction.  I wish I had your eagle eye for things like that and I mean that in a most positive remark. :)
A side note: Using child's water based glue sticks go on easy, dry completely clear, and if you want just grab the paper and it peels off with easy clean up. I experimented with a couple glues on my entrance door glass prior. LOL

I would have done the same. It is a good finishing touch on a nice body of work.
If my car ever makes it to a show (probably MCACN if any), I would consider putting together something like that. I assume since my car was a dealer trade, the original window sticker would have the first selling dealer, and they would not have made a new sticker for the the dealer that the car was eventually sold through?

Austin:  NO new window sticker, regardless of how many times a new car may have been 'traded' between dealers... window sticker would show the 'original' dealer it was shipped to.

Oh my, thanks for the kind words Steve and yes agree it was great seeing many of the CRG members along with other car friends from Canada, CA, etc.... I was very impressed with the quality of cars utilizing the Vintage Team services and it seem to get better and better each year. Great crop of cars Steve! Wish our car would have been in the main hall vs. a side area but we had a lot of visitors. :) And very cool obtaining a Celebrity Award along with Gold Restoration Concours.
And to you and your family Steve and all members & families "Happy Thanksgiving."

Thank You! It was just how it fell I guess as the bulk of cars are in the main area and there are still a lot of cars not. We were for sure not the only car that could have been in the main hall so no issues on our part as its a great show!
What was screwed up was I was told Friday morning we were to be in the main section with other 67-69 Camaro's but 6PM on Friday was put in a total different area which was called zone 5. Again, it worked OK and we had a lot of visitors and even repeat visitors who brought other visitors. I'd do it all over again even though we have a 12 hour trek to the show. :) Tremendous work to bring in all those cars between Thursday and Friday so hats off to the organizers.

Thank You! Bill, the weather was great when we arrived Thursday (73 degrees) and Friday was above temps but rainy. Saturday the temps dropped significantly and Sunday it was around mid teens with the wind chill early morning but dry. We drove the car out of the building and loaded up and were on our way by 6PM.
