Crossram Breather Fitment w/ ZL2 Ducted Hood

Looking for some good information on cross ram fitment under a stock (non cross ram) hood. I know the low profile narrow base filter below will fit under a stock flat hood/ducted hood, but what I would really like to know is if anyone has tried fitting the narrow filter with the black surround under a stock cowl hood and if it formed any kind of a seal to the opening?

I mean...if the narrow base fits and clears the hood and all your doing is adding the black plenum box under the small breather, will it fit under a non cross ram cowl hood? I'd like to try getting that foam seal to mate to some of the stock opening so I can bring fresh air in through a functional cowl hood, but don't want to start chopping mine up to add the HBC steel cross ram cowl opening or to use one of those cheap fiberglass hoods offered.

Has anyone added the base with the low profile filter and had any measure of success?

Must not be too many folks around with Crossram cars? Well...I bit the bullet and ordered a wide base breather with a low profile 1.75" filter. I'll fit it to the intake and carbs this winter and will try using it under the cowl hood with foam being trimmed to fit to the hood. If that doesn't work the way I am hoping, I'll add a Crossram hood at a later date.

Pictures when I cross that bridge.  ;)

Probably some people out there running the cross ram setup. It was available over the counter but never on a car from the assembly plant/factory.

Dual carb setups can be temperamental, hard to tune for both efficiency and performance. And honestly, for a little 302, way too much carb unless you will be consistently running between 4000 and 8000 RPMs.

Bryon is correct they can be very temperamental as we have one but our DZ short block is now stroked to 383 cu. in. with aluminum heads and a Wayne Guinn certified GM cross-ram manifold and carbs. She idles perfectly and I've been in heavy traffic with 90 degree temps but we had a very talented engine builder and tuner do the car, i.e. RaceKrafters. It's a pro-touring car with 5 speed and many up-grades.
Our hood is a Heartbeat repro cross-ram cowl steel hood so I can not assist with fit up.

Very nice Chick. This will be going into my 68 with a new engine that will be stroked and massaged. Intake is coming from a good friend who has done a number of these over the years and is an expert with these carbs. He setup my last one but I didn't get to enjoy the car much before selling it, so this will be my second 2x4 setup.

Hoping to leave the existing cowl hood and use it with the new setup tucked underneath. If it doesn't fit then I'll pick up another hood for it. Running an M22 and 410's in behind it as my driver car. Building it to make somewhere in around 500hp on pump gas.

The old one is coming out to sit aside.

Im in same boat with my 69 as well. Also would like to keep stock zl2 hood with crossram breather set up.

Looks like the wide base will fit under a stock flat hood or a ZL2 ducted hood. The question now will be how much trimming it takes to get the foam seal to work where it conforms somewhat to the non Crossram hood and creates enough of a partial seal to draw air in from the cowl. I'd hate to add a repop hood to this car and I'm hoping by trimming the foam I can get a decent fit to the existing hood.

I got the breather from The Parts Place and will start fitting it after the new motor is in with the Crossram buttoned up. I have the lower elbow and spark arrestor but still need to get the hose pieces and upper elbow that secures to the filter base. Should add a serious fun factor to the 68 once it's on there and tuned. The carbs I am running are original 4295's but the intake is a modified Offenhauser as there is no way I am shelling out for an original at 15K. Going to run a high lift (short duration) roller cam in this one with light weight 355 reciprocating assembly and some ported 492 double hump 202 heads. That should make some good ponies for it as a regular driver car.

Daytona Z what did you end up coming to as a solution for the underside of your hood to fit the crossram?

Chick, were you able to fit the backup linkage with those headers? They look like Doug's from the picture?
