Charlotte here we come
« on: September 14, 2016, 03:04:50 PM »
After a long hot summer  and a hard work schedule I am ready.    Vacation is next week and  me and the old guys will be in NC.  I am going to bring a few nos parts, some nicely reconditioned RS parts, 2 Muncies,  old speed parts, and a complete 2 inch drop spindle set up with brakes.   Love heading south  and we are in the green field just outside of the tunnel.   Stop by sat hi, take a load off if you need to.  Dan

I am 8 and a half  hours and look forward to it.  Only problem with fall is our northern winter is coming.   Last year was nasty cold  under 20 most all winter.   This summer had 43 90 plus degree days.  I work in a 225 year old steel mill in maintenance and summer is when we have shut down for repairs.  So I am looking for some vacation time

All packed.  Now there is a riot issue.    The police keep shooting what is said to be the wrong people.

The Speedway is 16 miles and 1/2 hr from center city , I think it should be ok as long as you don't go through uptown! JMHO :o

Yes, I don't have any information on where/what/etc the rioting is, but the track is outside of Charlotte, actually in a different city... (Concord, NC)...

We stayed north west of the trouble.    All went well.   It was really hot.  Attendance was not the best.  I may just go next spring.   Skip the fall and go to Carlisle GM show.    It is a good time because I'm with my dad and uncle.  But the show is starting to be a disappointment.    The new inside layout is really confusing.

Maybe the attendance was down due to the current Charlotte trouble...?

but I most would echo this thought ... " The new inside layout is really confusing. " ...

Well... Half the inside layout is different; namely, the Blue Field. The rows are now more curved to work around the road course. The Orange Field has stayed pretty much the same.
I monitored the Blue Field Wednesday through Friday, and we actually had fewer questions from vendors than last year. In truth, nobody likes change, including me! It takes three or four years to work through big changes at an event as large as Charlotte.
What has me more concerned is the gradual drop off in the number of good cars in the car corral, including Camaros. Several of the better restorers in this area have moved away from buying, restoring and selling to restoring for owners. Good, restorable cars are getting harder to find.

To me a large part of the problem is prices.  I took 2 4 speeds and set them out for 850.  Both clean and ready to go.   I had the side covers off nothing to hide.    No interest.    Fall has not been good for me in over 6 years.  Dad heard a guy say that in coming 8 years,  he did not know anything was outside the track.    I  heard the Red field is gone in the spring.    That will help tighten up the Green field.    I am only making MY comments not as complaining,  but to help make things better.    I love coming down.   And this year's events didn't stop us old northerners

ds1,
Red Field will still be around next spring. The Speedway has put Red and Orange Field projects on back burner.
I agree that more interest needs to be stirred up for Green and Red Fields in the spring. The Speedway does run a tram to the outside, but more needs to be done to draw buyers outside.
If and when you call to reserve spaces, tell the ladies in the office more needs to be done outside.
