Grass still reflects in the paint, spotless harness...I could spend days ogling this car. None of that awful Ziebart covering everything.
I get it, I'm loving this car.

And this is why I get to a point and stop. Something always surfaces as reference. And what a time piece.

If we restored a first gen cowl like this some might say it was not correct as the fade paint line is higher than what we normally note.

Right where mine was and right where I'll restore it back to when I paint it.

More pictures of the engine compartment:
Look at the difference in the captured washer on the lower fender bolt from the right side to the left side.

Radiator Tag with the white highlighted UH.

Spring painted black-

All of the B, P, & B stampings are in green.

Note the paint on the by-pass hose coupling. From other vintage pictures I have from other cars it shows the by-pass hose was in place when the engine was painted.

RS Washer bottle zinc screws.

Clearly shows the 3/4” captured washer used on the hinge to fender which is not what the 68 AIM calls out. Very normal process of what was actually used.

Radiator Cap-

Fan Shroud bolt assembly-

Hi Chick....I see you noticed the difference between the right and left bolt that attaches the fender to the firewall. Well guess what, my car was the same way.  Now please tell us why this happened.   ???

Our 68 was the same way and have noticed that feature on everything I've looked at in the past. I'm assuming the reason Jerry was when you look at the rear of the hinge area and if the screw called out was used with it's 1" captured washer there would be no room for adjustment so I'm thinking assemblers early on used what worked. We called it in manufacturing where I worked "black book process!"

We have had somewhat of a reorganization of the Forum section names.  Because the term "Survivor" is not an exact definition and can be interpreted differently, we are moving away from that term as a section. It is now "Original Cars and Details".  I will also post something in the Posting Guidelines for that section. The change has nothing to do with this car, and was already being discussed before this car was even posted.

What original feature would you like to highlight on this car when I make a new entry?  How about chalk marks and inspection marks?

The photo in this thread showing the cowl would be a good addition to the thread at this link.

Bryon, did post as you suggested to the above link.
Yes, did see the name changed to "original cars and details." Why not move it over and just title it "Details of a 68 RS Z/28" as I have a load of pictures to share including paint stripes, trunk, interior, RS details, and underneath features.

Post was moved over and was temporarily locked, while I changed all of the subject lines.

I really, really like this car.  For multiple reasons - it's a 68, it's a Z28, and it's Rallye Green.  :)

There was a car very similar to this that I first saw 23 years ago in my neighborhood, then it disappeared.  I saw it again recently, but was not able to track down where it went, but it appears to be a local car.  The search will continue.

A little confusion here I believe. Chick, you are noting the size of washer/bolt used to attach the hinge to the fender, the acatual bolt having a smaller than called out on AIM washer size (what I understood) and Jerry is noting the 2 washer sizes of the bolt directly behind the hinge that attach the fender to the cowl. Correct?

Wow Bentley you are 100% correct. Guess my last post was about the hinge to fender and did not read close enough and assumed. That is most interesting and can anyone state the same findings on their 68? Now, I think Jerry's is a 07C Camaro and Skip's being a 07D might have a time link to assembler or? Jerry, can you confirm the 07C? JohnZ had stated this part of the process took some experience.

Yes, two differences being discussed.

I have seen both styles of bolts for the hinge to fender bolts.

Can you check the head markings on left and right fender to firewall bolts?  Are they from the same manufacturer?  If not, that might explain the difference.
