Vintage Camaro Magazine Ads and Such
« on: August 08, 2016, 01:27:11 PM »
Since we dont have a drag racing section..   :P  And since I was going through old magazines over the weekend I thought I would start a thread with ads and other stuff from BITD about Camaro and drag racing..

EDIT:

Ill go back at some point and scan in the photos to make them more view-able and readable.

DW,
Do you know if the picture of Bobby Warren is the Bobby Warren from Clinton NC? He was a family member from whom several people in NC bought or had engines built by Warren Engines. I have made a copy but I am sure family members would be interested. I speak in the past tense because it has been at least 20 years since I have contacted them. He was well known in this area as a serious racer.

Here is something interesting..  See if you can tell what was changed on this car besides the lettering.

One thing that changed was the rear emblem...  Chevy bowtie in one..  Z28 in the other...  :)

Bingo.  Next question is why.?.  was it to hide that it was a Z or something else???  Engine swap to a 427 or ???.  More pics coming later on.

Also note this X77 car with the side louvers.  I dont know anyone that would add the louvers and not the rest of the trim..

Darrell, you posted some great pics that bring back a huge amount of memories as I went to York US 30 for many years and then later to Maple Grove Dragway. In the late 60's my two racing idols were Bill Jenkins and Dave Strickler. The reason I ordered a L78 Nova in Feb. 69 was the results of Jenkins 68 L78 nova during the 68 racing season but I wanted a Camaro but they were more expensive. LOL But one of the main reason we own a 68 Z/28 today is the memory of Strickler's 68 Z/28.
A picture of our 69 L78 nova in the late 70's at York US 30.

Now to my two heroes who both RIP!

Great thread Darrell...and here's my contribution.

In chronological order, some early pictures of my Z/28 with the original and second owners racing it at various tracks in the Pacific Northwest. Pictures are from 1970 up through the mid 1980's as the car changed paint schemes and then ownership between friends. One of these days I'll work to get this car finished up and back on the road again. It's only been 45 years now since it's seen the street, with Kym and Randy both eager to see it back on the road again.

That last picture has to be Seattle, Both Portland and Woodburns dragstrips never have had the staging lanes next to stands. From all the old pictures of PIR ive seen. The second to last picture I'm leaning towards Seattle as well but it could be Portland.

Yup...I just sum them up as PNW as there's lots of trees in the second last one and lots of water in both. (lol)

Next time I see Randy (second owner) I'll have to ask him as he'll know where those were from.
