Looking for documentation for my 1968 Camaro, I believe to be an SS. Drivetrain is original from Muncie 4 spd. back to rear axle. Also interested in finding the original engine. Thanks.

It's probably not. It started off on L.A. Craigslist in 2007 as an SS clone. Then it was on Craigslist again in 2009 by a different seller as a "Possible" SS 350. Then again several months later by yet a different seller stating it was a "Super Sport". If you want to make sure, you'll have to post pictures of the numbers on the transmission and rear axle.

Mods, please move this to a different location.

No need to remove it. The moderators can just move it to the General Discussion area.

And I would still like to see pictures of your transmission and axle numbers. Just because the original seller in 2007 said it was a "clone" doesn't make it so. After 40 years things can get very convoluted!

And I'm assuming you just got the car off of THIS EBAY AUCTION?

Please do *NOT* posts requests for documentation or drivetrain for your car. That will just clutter up the forum. Any such post will be deleted.

Here's #'s from the axle, in 2 different postings with pics. The ones with BS is the best pics I can get until I take off the axle and clean it up. The best I can tell it shows BS 05.......

And yes, that's the auction I bought the car from.

I'm going to let Kurt comment on the transmission and axle stamps, but they both look good to me. And if that's the case, then congratulations my friend, you have an SS-350!

Going by the numbers, the axle "pumpkin" was cast on May 12th, 1968 and then assembled on May xx, 1968. (You can't see the day, but the code is BS and that indicates a 3.31:1 gear set, which was standard on the 350 engine. You can also see the E for Eaton Posi under that). I would assume the axle was probably assembled in mid to late May, 1968, which is perfect for an early July (07A) car built at the Van Nuys plant.

The transmission was assembled on June 19th, 1968, and has your partial VIN stamped on it, so again, if it's a factory stamp and not a restamp (which I believe is true), it's original to the car and another indicator that it started life as an SS-350.

Can you get a more close-up picture of the transmission stamps? Like I said, they look good to me, but a better picture would confirm that.

And I've fixed your picture of the "pumpkin" casting date (see attached). You can now clearly see E128 (May 12th, 1968).

Thanks Ed, very much appreciate your input. My goal is to slowly restore it back to an original looking SS with a 350. But I understand that without docs I can't for sure prove it. But I'll stay true to form while working on it and make it look as original as I can. It's got a completely different engine from a truck engine I believe in it than the original motor, I'll be looking at the postings under "orphans" to see if the block or docs ever show up for it. But eventually I'll put a warmed up 350 back in it and keep the engine compartment clean. I look forward to the journey.

Looks like a fairly solid case for legitimacy at this point.  Congrats.

I went in and removed where you had double posted some pics.

Axle and transmission stamps seem original and correct for that car.
