68 console trim plate
« on: June 17, 2016, 06:28:37 PM »
I am just wrapping up a frame up restoration on my 1968 396 SS convertible and I am trying to figure out why the console with gauges four speed  trim plate is different from what the factory assembly shows, for example the one that came with my car has no mounting studs for shifter slider and has part#3921801 VS. 3921800 shown in A.I.M.,does anyone know of a design change late in 1968 with this plate? I want this car as accurate as possible since  I plan to have it judge at the national next year and have attached pics with my original plate and a repro plate that looks like the one in A.I.M.. Thanks, Curt

My 07C original car has #3921801 stamped on it just like yours and it has the studs.  It appears to me that someone has trimmed yours down for some reason.

Welcome to the site Curt. Hopefully some guys can post some helpful info for the plate.

When you get a chance start a new thread with some pics of your car and info. Thanks!

X2. Curt, the aim is correct as those studs that missing are used to hold the retainer and plastic seal using 4 9419755 nuts. If u go to my build thread in my signature, page 76, post #1136 I have info there and on console. Welcome!
