tire/wheel combo question
« on: May 03, 2016, 12:12:33 PM »
Looking to put larger OE style rubber on my 69 z

Kelsey TIre makes a G60x15 in Polyglass GT -  anyone know if/how well these fit with stock rally wheels and suspenion?

2nd -  the other option would be to put a set of MiniLites on... anyone know where I could get a set?  15x7 or 15x8

Thanks

There is a 69Z that runs around here with Polyglass G60-15's on grey center torque thrusts, always liked the look.  However he has the car raised up about 3" all around with stouter springs.  I never bothered to ask if that was for clearance reasons or if he was going for the "day 2" appearance.

At stock height, I'm certain they would fit in the rear just fine, I'd question the front though.

Here you go, he has it forsale.

Actually it was a black one he has that I was referring to that sits a little higher than this one, both are for sale, but these pics might help visualize what you're after.

So is the car for sale certified by the seller? That's what it looks like to me?

Oh, I don't know.  I've never enquired about his cars for sale, I don't need another one.  I've seen the cars in person at the local Pavilions though and had a look at them.   Nice "driver" type cars that appear to be real, but with restoration mistakes and small details that could be addressed if you want to get picky.
For someone that wants a neat looking Z to jump in turn key and cruise around in, not a bad buy though as I've seen basket cases that need total restorations for close to this money.   If I remember right, the black 69Z he has for sale is more money, but I like this color combo better.   He deals in a lot of first gens, pace cars etc...

Minilite has a website where you can order new ones.  They advertise still made in England.  I have thought about getting a set for my '69 Z.

I tried BFG Radial TAs in F60-15 size on 8" Corvette Rallyes on my Z28 back in the '70...  I finally removed them after changing out the front fender-to innerfender bolts to rounded allens, and finally tearing up the wheel lip trim and the plastic RS covers.. they fit fine on the rear, but were always a problem scrubbing on turns/dips on the front...

Honest to goodness truth - I ran H60-15 Goodyear Polyglas on stock YH rims on the rear of my X77 for several years - nearly 11" of tread, the good thing about Polyglas tires (at least then) was the flat sidewall when you mounted them on a 7" rim. I've still got pics of the car with these on it, post it later tonight.

No quarter lip modifications, no spacers, no rub. I've still got my spare tire (since '72-'73) mounted on the original YH rim (I have all 5) - it's a G60.

Hard to drive bias ply now since radials took over - but I loved my Polyglas tires. Brillo pads to the letters at every quarter car wash -
