Hi Dave,

Is that a grayish paint of a faded zinc coating on those two clips?

Thanks,
Mike

I'm pretty sure it's just light blue paint.  I used Krylon KSCS070 Bonnet Blue.   Very close if not spot on.

Here's mine from a small block:

Before:

After paint:

Installed:

The two screws appear black but upon clean-up, pretty sure they were silver zinc color.  The black from the seal discolored them.

Hans is correct. It's an egg shell blue paint of some sort.

Perhaps the small block cars were different but I found no evidence of paint on one of the clips on my big block heater core when I disassembled it for restoration. I found that Valspar paint 86007 (Flat La Fonda Mirage) was pretty darn close to what I found on the one clip.

Here are a few before and after pics.

Interesting.  It appears some were painted; others not as HawkX66's clips both appear to have been painted while only one of yours was.

Yea....go figure? Maybe they ran out of paint. :) My car is a '68 if that matters.
