Rear window crank 1969 Custom vs. Standard
« on: March 19, 2016, 09:11:37 PM »
Is the REAR window crank handle and mechanism the same for Custom, aka Deluxe, and Standard interiors?

I think they are , but I am not 100% sure . I know the front ones are because of the thickness of the door panels .

On a 69 Camaro the crank sets are the same for standard and deluxe,  I believe. The window regulator has a longer shaft on the deluxe panel, at least in the front.
The rear's are different than the front, they have a deeper offset to compensate  for the angle of the rear interior panel and allows the needed clearance when the crank knob is forward, put a front on the back and it nearly hits the SS trim .
The above  may not be the same for 67 and 68, not real sure on those years. But the front regulaters also have longer shafts.

Thanks Mike. That is what I understood, regulators, door only, longer handle shaft with Dlxe. and cranks are the same regardless of interior. I want to gather a consensus so that it may be added to the interior section of the research topics, hopefully. There is a lot of conflicting information regarding handles etc.. between Std. & Custom (Dlxe.) on the net. I purposely left out the 67 as it is different in design of the door panel on the Custom application and the handles are different, I believe?

Heartbeat City has the correct contour front and rear 69 handles, there nice repop's, not bad at all.

Heartbeat handle,INT-2643, description says,... " The clear knob was used on all 1968 models without black interior and 1969 models with standard interior only."...  This is clearly (no pun intended) inaccurate, wrong information. I know for a fact, all Standard and all Custom 69 interiors, ALL, came with clear knobs. Can't speak for the 68 (not versed as well), but I never parted out a Camaro from the 68-9 model that did not have clear knobs. This is why I asked these questions about these cranks to get a definitive answer.

What knobs do they suggest came with 1968 black interior, and 1969 with custom interior, then?

All 68's are color keyed with 3 steps on the knobs
All 69's are clear knobs with many ridges

Yes, and later service replacements are wrong in many areas compared to those 68's with the 3 steps. Reason I saved my knobs when re-chromed and then put back on per information found via NCRS how to. Another easy thing that can go incorrect in a restoration.
