Turbo 400 ID stamp color..a really obscure question
« on: December 20, 2006, 05:02:29 PM »
Hello: There were 3 different Turbo 400's used in the 69 Camaro's, CC, CE and CX to denote upshift points, ect. I was wondering what color was used when these codes were ink stamped on the bell housing. I've only seen a CC trans. which was stamped in yellow. Also were the ID tags, riveted to the side of the trans, different colors? Maybe someone out their knows. Also did all the ID tags have 68 in the date code area of the ID tag as the stamped in date is sequencial from the first calander day in 1968? (Info from Jerry MacNeish book) I would certianly appreciate any input.
Thks.:
Sam

I have two original '69 THM400's.  One is from a big block Caprice and the other is the coveted CX - YEAH BABY!

Both ID tags are yellow.  The CX was from a February 1969 build L/78 Nova and the tag has a 69 stamped on it.
I don't have the other THM400 close by to investigate the date stamp for you.

Here is the CX tag:
69 SS 396, Hugger Orange, D/80, D/90
Chambered Exhaust, N/66, THM400, 3:73 posi

Steve: Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I had only seen a 67 tag and it was dark green. The trans should have "CX" ink stamped or painted on, on the bell housing on the pass side top. What color is it?
Thks. again.
