That's strange.....these "Canaro's" look identical to what I remember a Camaro looking like. But I must say my memory must be slipping...I can't ever remember seeing a "Canaro".....must be old age catching up to me.

All those standard wheels on the 67 SS's put the J52 numbers in the RPO spreadsheet in perspective. Looking at the surviving cars today you'd think almost all of them came with rally wheels.

Here is a fun fact about Merollis chevy in Detroit MI. They sold 5 of the 69 ZL-1 Camaro's #11 #24 #32 #37 and #50.

Actually they didn't. All five were stolen and stripped of engines/transmissions. Probably all of them were recovered but they were on MSO at the time; GMAC was the legal owner. The remains were sold at a salvage auction. #11 & #24 were titled & registered; no legitimate title or registration history for #32, #37 & #50 has been located. Only #11 is known to exist.

wow, were they all taken at the same time or over a period of time? any of the motors or transmissions shown up in race car? and did other dealers have this problem with their ZL-1s

This is mostly legend. The story goes they were boosted one evening from a fenced area with a locked gate. If any of the drivetrain components are around I am not aware of it. Experienced car thieves knew enough to obliterate VIN stampings.

#39 was supposedly stolen from Jack Head Chev in CA. But I recently heard it was raced since new, never registered for street use. #43 was stolen from Hauser Chev in Bethlehem PA in 1972. Was privately owned at the time. Still titled to an insurance company.
