That's as bad as a reproduction window sticker gets. A 3.75 positraction axle?
Learning more and more about less and less...

IMHO both the window sticker and POP look too perfect to be 47 years old. (Especially the sticker!) My 68 POP is in pretty good shape but not as "nice" as this one...

I agree! My 66 Chevelle POP looks pretty much like the first one that Bentley shows.

Sorry, for the bone head quick response. Lazy on my part

Ok now I see on the lower part of the window sticker where it says L-72 option.( I thought it was ordered after the fact)
I would be calling B.S. on that. I don't have a bunch of window stickers to compare, just Jerrys book. There are other discrepancies but that L-72 substitution, not to mention the font, would raise a red flag.

I was going to go into more detail regarding the P.O.P. but I was getting into to many details, and prefer not to help anybody out making one :)

I personally wouldn't be so quick to claim a fake protecto-plate just because it's in nice shape.  My father bought his 69 GTO brand new, still has it.  His protecto-plate is in near mint condition after all these years.  He never had the car in for any warranty work and the protecto-plate stayed in his folder in the house all these years and was never tampered with.

I'm not implying that the example in this discussion is real, just saying there are really nice "real deal" protecto-plates out there so I don't feel seeing a nice one is a cause for alarm.  Besides, if someone wanted to go as far as to make a fake one (and people do) there are ways to make them look "aged" if one wanted to.

I agree as far as age goes. My protect-o-plate looks similar as far as age goes. I also have another for my 66 Chevelle SS, and it is also in very nice condition.

The tape looked different on his. I have seen them with GM logo tape and with clear, his looks more like a goldish brown?

Austin,

I owe you one.. :)    I was reading your post where you mentioned 'GM logo tape'.. and I'm wondering .. What is he talking about??

So I dug thru my piles of records (I have two original 1969 Protecto-plates)..  The one for the '69 Camaro does have the 'GM' tape (ie. clear tape with a few GM logos on it that I'd never noticed or paid attention to before)..  The other is for my '69 Corvette and it's owner info was on clear tape, but no GM logo.    Interesting.. :)

The window sticker is clearly fake. With a stamp on it saying upgrade to 427??? A dealer made up that stamp because many customers asked??
The POP looks reasonable other than the extra digit in the VIN.
Order form looks reasonable except for the 427 written in.
So the set could be real and someone swung for the bleachers and made up the WS. Who knows, but it's tainted now...
