Source for 67-68 RS backup light inner gasket?
« on: February 19, 2016, 10:25:36 PM »
Hello,

Has anyone who has, or had, replaced the lower backup lights on a Rally Sport (67-68) ever replaced the gasket that goes between the rear of the light housing extension and the round hole in the valance to seal it from water getting into the valence from behind? It is shown in AIM Z22/B3 and is item #2 with a part number of 3899800.
I may have to resort to fabricating one if there are no vendors who sell them. The original is crumbled.  think I have exhausted all vendors so far so I wanted to give CRG a try.

Thank You,
Mike

Mike,
Probably get better response if you repost in Originality.

Hi Janobyte,

The odd thing is nobody seems to make these and yet it would be one of those that I think R/S owners would want to change. It seals the back of the reverse light housing that extends past the inner part of the lower valance. They are a grayish color. I have a friend who parted out a totaled R/S 15 years ago and he said he is sure he still has them.
But, I do thank you very much for the offer though!

Mike,
I know you are busy with your painting but if you get the gaskets from your friend could you post a picture with measurements as I also need them.
These gaskets have been on my to do list for some time but I am not as far along on my restoration as you.
I also have wondered for some time as to why they are not being reproduced and resigned to the fact I would have to make my own.

I believe that was one of the web sites I did check and no luck.  :(
It's as if the gaskets never existed.
