where do these wires go to
« on: February 14, 2016, 11:39:20 PM »
I am cleaning up the last of the underdash wiring on my 68. Can some of you help me on what these wires are suposed to go to?  A solid yellow wire, and orange and a white one together, two green ones and one orange with a flat plastic clip on it
Thanks
Darryl

Solid yellow wire goes to the radio
Orange and white together goes to the brake switch
Two green together goes to the high beam switch (connector also has a blue and brown wire)
Orange could be for the cigarette lighter

Thanks for the info Camarocards, now I am more confused. I have the wires for the brake system already hooked up, also my high and low beams as they both still have the factory plug ins. This is a four speed, a/c, console car if that helps. I may need to get a colored wire diagram .
Thanks
Darryl

Darryl,

My '68 is an auto non AC car. Download the AIM and have a look at the wiring diagram in it. Sounds like maybe a previous owner did some creative wiring.  :(

The greens are most likely to the trans reverse lamp switch on 67 and 68.

Might the greens have gone to the front speaker?

I don't think so.  The front speaker has one light green wire and one black wire.

I have run into this issue on a Mustang, and Chevelle aftermarket wiring, as well as my 64 Chevy C/10. All of these are 4 speed manual vehicles.

The extra wires were meant to go to the neutral safety switch on an automatic. Hopefully this helps.

Not too sure about that. Here is what my the wiring on my neutral safety switch looks like.

Purple is correct for the switch

thought you said this is 4 speed car, that pic looks like a horse shoe shifter?

Manual trans will not use the purple wires.

Yep! You're right. He did say 4 speed. My mistake. My pic is for an auto trans car.
