Correct 69 BB Valve Cover Screws/Bolts
(1/1)
ko-lek-tor:
I thought that "TR" on the head was correct for a 69 big block valve cover screw? A guy, who has experience with 69 BB's, says they were R-B-W? Can someone on here definitively clarify which one?
Could it be that both TR & R-B-W were used (mixed) on a 69 BB? This would apply to all 69 Tonawanda BB applications (engine codes & C.U.), I assume?
Would someone please explain when for application/year usage of the "TR" large & small letters? Did small come before large(what I have thought)?

Not on a 69 but myself and another CRGer had this discussion a week or so ago.. Green car has one "TR" with the 3 slashes and the other 13 were "TR". So to answer your question is I havent seen RBW valve cover bolts but that isnt saying much. Not 100% certain on the when the change was but here are pics.

Though not '69, my Feb 14 and March 08, 1967 engine build dates both have 'TR' marked bolts (with 3 lines).
The only thing that comes to mind about RBW is were they used with painted BB covers? Darrell's and my 396's have the chrome valve covers so I wonder if 'TR' provided the zinc plated bolts and perhaps the 'RBW' were un-plated steel to save costs.
As for size here is a picture that shows a 'TR' bolt and washer from the set I recently zinc plated. So this looks to be what was used in '67 & 68 at least.

My 69 BB has the TR bolts (no grade marks). Most fasteners had alternate suppliers - it just had to meet the specs on the print.
